The grape embellished spoon is in remarkable condition and was found with bottles that date around 1880.
The British pennies date 1896 and 1906. Australia did not circulate it's own official currency until 1910. As the recovery site was a former railway station and telegraph office built around 1870, it came as no surprise to find balls of tangled copper wire, insulators, and the remnants of touch pads from morse code sets and brass name plates displaying the name of Electrical Engineers.
The backyard of the former railway station was rich in bottle finds, the yard in it's entirety yeilded around 700 to 800 good condition bottles.
There were codd's patent bottles, riley patent, cork cordials and crown seals, as well as JDKZ case gins, stone ginger beers, holloways pots, and other sundries. Everything dated between 1880 and 1920. |
