Dear Parent / Guardian ,

Arrangements are now in hand for the 2000 / 01 Olchfa - Herzogenried school exchange . This will be our 18th exchange trip with exciting preparations both here and in Mannheim . Places on the exchange are reserved with registration forms and a £ 20 non-returnable deposit on a first come - first served basis. 
Past experience , both here and elsewhere , has shown that the exchange visit to be a most valuable adjunct to pupils' progress in their German studies , and a most enjoyable experience for everyone taking part. Ideally , we would , therefore like to see everyone starting G.C.S.E or A-Level courses taking advantage of this opportunity . Lists of German pupils hoping for a partner will now be available in the language corridor .
Pupils will now be expected to host a German partner in the Autumn term and will in return to be their guests in their partner's home on our visit to Mannheim in February . 
Year 12 pupils will spend a week of their stay in Mannheim on some work experience project , giving excellent additional experience and a range of new language opportunities . 
Year 10 pupils attend school with their partners some of the time and have an organised programme of visits and activities on other days . Weekends here and in Germany are free with your families to arrange as they wish . 
Date for the 2000 / 01 exchange are as follows :- 
Mannheim pupils arrive in Swansea Saturday 7th October and leave Wednesday 18th October 2000.
Our return visit to Mannheim is Friday evening 9th February until Thursday 22nd February , 2001.
 
The approximate cost of the exchange is in the region of £140 , inclusive of insurance etc . Depending on final numbers . Payment is in three equal installments of £40 and the initial £20 . Cheques are payable to ' Olchfa school - German exchange ' 
This is a preliminary notice with a meeting to discuss details early in the Autumn term . If interested , Registration Forms are available immediately.
Although not a compulsory part of the course , because of the real benefits of such an exchange to pupils in their German studies , I hope you give this most worthwhile venture your serious consideration and are able to encourage your son / daughter to take part
