Learning Objective:

The student, after analyzing the characteristics of a persuasive essay, will be able to write a five paragraph essay on the given topic.

Writing Prompt:

The mayor of your city is trying to decide if an 8:00 p.m. curfew forchildren under the age of 16 is needed.
Think about how this decision will impact your life, and whether you agree with this proposal.
Now write to convince the mayor to pass or not to pass this curfew,

Content Outline:

I.Characteristics of a persuasive essay.
II.Strong Verbs

Classroom Management

Seating arrangement to facilitate pair work.

The teacher will distribute index cards. The students will follow directions on the cards.

BODY

Following the scope and sequence of the information presented in the content outline, the teacher will ask and seek answers to this questions:
1- Who is the mayor of Miami?
2- Describe the writing situation in your own words.
3- Use the Spaceship Planner to plan you essay.
4- Why do you think the mayor has taken thids decision?
5-Make up a title for the essay.
6- What is your opinion about his law? Support your answer with three reasons
