DJOKO PEKIK

PEKIK was born in Grobogan Purwadadi,center of java on january 2nd 1937.his father name is  Kartodikromo Gariman.his mother name is Sinem.Pekik yell painter earned the nickname of one billion. That's because his pa intings, Indonesia 1998 Hunting Boar, sold for $ 1 billion in a single exhibition in Yogyakarta, 1999. The boar hunting with two other paintings, Dairy King Boar (1996) and No Interest and Condolence Telegram of 2000, is a trilogy. Among the 300 paintings by artists emaciated, the trilogy is most memorable for him.

Djoko himself held from 8 November 1965 until 1972 in Prison Wirogunan, Yogyakarta. "While in prison, I vacuum painting," he said. Post-prison, even until 1990, he was ostracized by relatives, neighbors, fellow artists and the other wing.

Married to C.H. Tini Purwaningsih in 1970, while still a prisoner of the city, now Djoko father of eight children. With his wife, he closed to within 14 years of age. They met in the Campus ASRI, because Tini campus neighbors who often come to the ASRI. After marriage, 1970-1987, for a living, Djoko become a tailor, making shirts, jackets, trousers. But the profession does not make economic life of the family firm. "It's not every day I got orders, just sometimes," he said.

Good fortune finally arrived. The works at one time used as research material for a dissertation painter Astari Rashid, who then read by acquaintances from abroad. In 1989, Djoko included exhibition in America, many artists who protested Indonesia - because the status of political prisoners. News in the newspapers and magazines, it just made him even more famous. "People realized there was a painter whose name Djoko yell," he said.

Since then the collectors hunt for his paintings. Until one day he would not sell it anymore, because the guests can see and admire it every time. "If there's baseball, I mean poor. That's why this works I hold, not sold, "he said.

Paintings by many observers judged differently from each other. In fact, he himself admitted that the painting technique from the beginning until now, yes, so-so only. "I miss these people, stupid people, people who can not have a remarkable painting techniques," he said modestly. "So, I'm not proud of the others."

Because of the bitterness that had experienced as a painter, Djoko is not directing his sons became painters. In addition, he felt that a painter's father, when his sons also became painters, they would not be able to exceed his father.
