YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

CALIFORNIA

Established 1890

Conservationist and naturalist John Muir's struggle against the devastation of sub alpine meadows surrounding Yosemite valley -- with its high cliffs and waterfall -- led to the establishment of this national park.  Muir said, "Parks are useful as fountains of life," and "In wilderness lies the hope of the world".
