Nearly 200 million acres of national forests complement our national parks.  Public outcry over the ravaging of land by uncontrolled logging led to passage of Weeks Ac, allowing the government to purchase and preserve land east of Mississippi.  White Mountain was the first purchase made possible by this legislation.
