If you are interested in hummingbirds and would like to know more about them or share your hummingbird stories and pictures, plus be with a group of people who share your love of hummingbirds then, please join the Hummingbird Lovers Club. Click on the underlined link to go there.

We not only share our love for hummingbirds but, we are a close knit group who share many other things.  We encourage each other when we are down and we celebrate with each other when times are good.  So, stop by and say hello.

Hummingbirds come north from Mexico in most places around the first of April to mid-April; however, they do arrive sooner in the Gulf Coast regions of the country (Texas and Louisiana borders).  So, get those feeders up to welcome them this year.

RECIPE FOR NECTAR

4 parts water to 1 part sugar (real sugar .... no sugar substitutes and never use honey).  Do not use the store-bought kind with the red dye in it because, it could be harmful to the little jewels.  Boil your water first, let it cool to warm and then add your sugar and make sure it dissolves completely.  Any left-over nectar can be stored in the refrigerator in a glass container (that has never been washed with soap) for up to about 2 weeks.  Clean feeders often, especially during the hot summer days ... feeders should be cleaned and changed every other day when the temps are hot because the nectar can spoil very quickly in heat.  Never use soap on your feeders.  Very hot water and a good brushing should be okay. About once a month it is a good idea to soak your feeders in a water/bleach solution.  Soak for about an hour and then rinse, rinse, rinse.

Anything else you need to know can be learned in the Hummingbird Lovers Club.  We have a couple of experts in there who can answer any question that you may have.  Hope to see you there.
