A Buddhist layman was dying. He had not yet
attained enlightenment and was worried about
his next rebirth. A monk came to visit him and
he confided his problem.
"Have you lived a good or a bad life ?''
"I have tried very hard to do good, though I
haven't always succeeded."
"when a tree is cut down does it fall the way
the tree bends or the other way," asked the monk.
"The way it bends, of course."
"Then don't worry,"smiled the monk,
"You will also fall the way you are inclined."
