FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Ive clicked on the link to open the contest brochure and I dont see anything. What am I doing wrong?
Depending upon the type of computer youre using and the browser, there are several options:
1. Try highlighting the URL (the website address) and pressing ENTER or RETURN again.
2. The computer may have actually downloaded the PDF. Look on your desktop for the document.
3. Make certain your computer has Acrobat Reader. If it doesnt, download it free from the brochure page.
4. Still having problems? Contact Ronna Austin.
Can I print the contest brochure?
Yes, you can print the contest brochure. You may need to print several copies of the contest entry form, depending on how many entries you want to submit.
When I print the form, it doesnt fit on my printer paper. What can I do?
To fit standard-size printer paper, youll need to print the form at 75 percent. To do that, go to FILE on the computers toolbar, choose PAGE SETUP, then set the SCALE at 75 percent.
Who can enter the SPJ contest?
Anyone can enter the contest. Entrants DO NOT have to be members of SPJ to submit entries. Of course, if a person wants to join SPJ, its easy to do right here on the Oklahoma SPJ website.
How do I get back to the brochure?
Simple. Just click right here to return to the SPJ Open Annual Contest brochure.
Does my entry have to have been published in Oklahoma?
Yes. It may have been published outside of Oklahoma as well but it has to have been published in an Oklahoma publication.
What is an enterprise story?
An enterprise story falls between an investigative story and a general news story. A great deal of time and effort is spent gathering the information needed for an enterprise story although that effort is not of an investigative nature. However, the work is more involved than that which is done to generate a general news story.
Im a photographer at a major newspaper. Some of my photographs are published in our online newspaper but not in the hard copy edition. Are those photgraphs eligible?
Yes. Since most major newspapers and many smaller ones have an online edition that may carry different pictures and stories than the printed version, we are accepting those too. A copy of the website page containing the story or photograph will need to be submitted as proof. If the photgraph was taken with a digital camera or scanned in, a print-out, done on photo paper, may be mounted for entry.
The contest rules say entries must have been published between July 1, 2002 and June 30, 2003. I want to enter something that is dated July 2002 but was printed and sent out by June 30, 2002. Can I enter this?
No. All entries must have a publication date that falls between July 1, 2002 and June 30, 2003.
