How To Make a Cabochon
by Paul W. Cinnamon

There are about as many procedures used to cut cabochons as there are cutters. In general, I believe whatever procedures work best for you represents the proper procedures for you to use. For those who have never cut a cab, or who are not entirely satisfied with the results they are obtaining, I will describe some procedures that may assist you. They should give you a good base from which to develop your individual style. The procedures I am going to describe do not address the problems presented in cutting special shapes, and materials that may require special equipment. These include some free form cabs, most fire agate, and doublets and triplets. I may attempt to cover procedures for some of these in the future.
