January 18, 2004 continued

After lunch and a brief nap (everyone takes a communal nap around the lunch table.  The table is low to the ground so you eat off of it sitting on the floor, the table also has an electric blanket surrounding the outside legs which you can pull over your lap to keep warm as you eat.  After eating just lie down, pull the blanket up a little further and viola! Instant bed.  Everyone should have one of these things)  the day slows down, we reassemble the giant rice cooker for the next day's cooking, and wash the measured rice..  Then it's a final check on all of the fermenters, water is added to the brew if needed, some cleaning and the day is over!

After 5pm the I had my mini interview with the tv crew and they were gone by around 6pm, which was a relief because having a tv crew around was fun at first, but after having to interact with them for almost 12 hours I was ready to call it quits.  By the end of the day they also looked pretty haggared so I think the feeling was mutual haha.

Yesterday, on the 17th the TV bit was aired, which was pretty cool! Its not very often I get a 3rd person perspective of myself.  I think I need to talk louder and straighten up my back a bit more but otherwise it looked pretty good! My family also managed to get their mugs on the tube in the form of a photograph haha.  I should receive a copy of the tape in the next couple of weeks, so I will pass it on to them.

Anyway true to form around here it was announced today that another TV crew will be coming to the brewery on Feburary 4th or so for 3 days!! This time the crew is a bit different tho, they are here to tape all the happenings at Masuichi, and they are part of some kind of international exchange program! There is an african woman from Ghana, a Chinese woman who can also speak English and Japanese to act as an interpreter, and a camera crew from the Phillipines.  They were wandering around the brewery today just to get a feel of the place, and of course since the majority of them spoke English I had to act as a tour guide.  They asked me all kinds of questions about the brewing process, hopefully I got all of the answers right! haha.

So that's just a small part of what's been happening here, never a dull moment working at Masuichi.  Later.

To be continued...
