For Poppy

You truly were a special man
You played with me and held my hand
Kept me warm when it was cold
Loved me with your heart of gold

You took me to feed the chickens and sheep
Then together in your chair we’d fall asleep
You loved me so much, that was plain to see
And I loved you as much as you loved me

Then one day when I was just four
Mommy told me you weren’t here anymore
You’d gone to Heaven and couldn’t come back down
But in different ways you’d still be around

I was young when you left this world
To walk through Heaven’s Gates of Pearl
Still too young to comprehend
I wouldn’t be with you on this earth again

Mommy and Granny will keep your memory here
Through pictures and stories I’ll still hold you dear
And I know that one day I’ll see you again
When my time on earth comes to an end

You are not here but you are not gone
Your memory will always live on
All those who loved you so genuinely
Will never forget you – I love you, Poppy
