My Christmas Wish

I woke up this morning to a snow that fell overnight
It looks as though this year we'll have a Christmas classified "white"
The kids put on their gloves and boots to play out in the snow
They'll have fun building a snowman and throwing snowballs to and fro

They'll come in soon to defrost, play some games, and get warmed up
I'll make a pot of hot cocoa and pour them each a steaming cup
We'll sit inside and watch the snow fall silently to the ground
And count how many cars creep by, sliding all around

Tonight the kids will fall asleep with visions of sugarplums
And I'll reach for the Valium, some Tylenol, and the Tums
We have way too much candy here, who made all this stuff?
Fudge, divinity, peanut butter balls, dipped pretzels, marshmallow puffs

We'll wrap up all the gifts we spent far too much money buying
The kids will wake up surprised and refreshed, and I'll feel like I'm dying
After the presents are opened, there's more to go through still
Christmas dinner is this afternoon. More food? This is overkill!

When the paper has all been picked up and the dishes are all clean
We have more Christmas fun coming, I'm sure you know what I mean
The batteries, the noises, the lights, hooking up the video game
Christmas when you're all grown up doesn't feel quite the same

Tomorrow I'll wake up early again, to drive through the frozen streets
It's back to work already, with leftover Christmas treats
We'll talk about our holiday, how we all had so much fun
But inside we're secretly thinking how wonderful that it's almost done

One more tradition to go through, New Year's Eve won't be so bad
We'll look back at the year through our memories, and re-live the fun we had
The kids will soon go back to school, vacation's over, what a bummer
Me, I'll just go back to bed - Someone wake me when it's summer!
