Welcome back, class! I forgot to tell you last time, but our first unit is ‘Clearing Basic Obstacles.’ This lesson will focus on the spell Alohomora. I am aware that you have studied this spell previously, but today we will be practicing upon larger and more intricate locks than those used in Charms class. Most locks you will have to open in this class will not be simple, and so Alohomora will require much more concentration and effort that you are used to. However, Alohomora does not work on all locks, especially those heavily guarded. But in this class, all of our locks are able to be opened. Now, we will begin with these. . .

(In an effort to make this class a little more exciting, and to let you earn some bonus points, you may mail me a description of something you think might happen or want to happen in this class. It may occur in either the current lesson or the following lesson. Please be fairly descriptive. You can include the original characters or your own. A link to my bio is located to the left, and you are more than welcome to make bios of your own. ^_^ If I can fit them in, I’ll put events in the lesson, thus turning my class into more of a story, but I think this will make lessons more fun.)

. . .For homework, please tell me what Alohomora does and name one type of lock it would work on. Also, please name one lock that you think the spell wouldn’t work on. You can give a general example, such as “a lock in the____,” or “a lock guarding____.” No more than a paragraph is needed, but more description = more points. As usual, homework is worth 20 points. Next lesson, I will discuss the cutting spell, Diffindo.
