To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Tori Talamonti. I am currently a sophomore at the Woodlands High School McCullough Campus. I plan on applying for Rice and Baylor University, among others, and going into medicine. I feel that volunteering at Memorial Hermann will help me to achieve my goals.

I am an active and dedicated person, especially in an area or activity I feel strongly about. I work hard to get things done, but I do enjoy relaxing and having fun. I believe I am strongest in the sciences and that I can communicate well through my writing. I care for the well-being of others and usually enjoy working with others instead of alone. I decided upon a career in medicine nearly a year ago. I am thinking about pediatrics and maybe cardiology. Since then, I have begun editing my school schedule so as to include extra math and science classes. I take nearly every class at the highest possible level that is available to me, and I dedicate a large portion of my time to those courses. I am also in the school choir, as I have been since fourth grade. I plan to stay in choir through high school and even in college, if possible. At church, I was nominated to be a part of the A/V Worship Team in my freshman year, where I have been trained by a professional, and I have worked many hours putting my skills to use. I plan to remain there until the end of my high school career. Through my youth group, I traveled to Herrera in the Dominican Republic on a mission trip. About thirty others and myself spent most of the morning in door-to-door missionary work, and the afternoons were spent at a small school in the town. We played with and helped to teach young children, adults, and everyone in between. If I can save enough, I hope to go again in the summer of 2004. I believe that a career in medicine will make an impact on the world, and I know that it will take hours of work and much dedication to get there. I believe that the volunteer program at Memorial Hermann can help me not only in the field of medicine, but also in any other opportunity made available to me. Through the volunteer program, I will witness the working of a hospital as an active member instead of a patient. I will get to be a part of changing peoples lives, and I will get to help those around me. I will be working with others, thus improving and strengthening my communication and relational skills. At Memorial Hermann, I hope to interact not only with the staff, but also with the patients, and to observe two sides of hospital life. I believe that volunteering will aid me in a future career in medicine by providing me with experience and knowledge, as well as help me to improve myself as a person.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you and performing volunteer work at Memorial Hermann.
