This was our first glimpse of Havasu Falls. You cannot swim toward the falls as the current will push you away. However if you just drift with the current, it will take you to the right side of the falls where you can climb on a ledge and go behind the falls.
Our campsite was about 200 yards beyond Havasu Falls and across the trail from the creek. There were lots of squirrels that loved to steal food so I hung our food and trash on a rope. That would not have deterred even a half-whitted squirrel, however since few other campers had ropes, critter food was easy pickings elsewhere. We both had 360 degree ventilated tents which was very nice in the heat.
Take flood warnings seriously. If you can, find the highest ground you can to pitch your tents. You can see the damage to this tree and picnic table from previous flooding goes up about 6 feet. In 1997, a heavy rain upstream completely washed out a campsite and they had to evacuate all campers and Indians with helecopters.
