| The Muscalero Apache indians recently permitted hiking on Sierra Blanca starting from Ski Apache which is accessible via a road through the Lincoln National Forest. I almost made it to the top in 2007 but I ran out of water. I took the posted trail rather than hiking directly up the ski slopes which took me about 5 miles out of my way. Plans to try again with a friend from Roswell in 2008 were nixed as the Lincoln National Forest was closed due to the drought and fire danger. | |||||||
