From the East, take I-40 to Seligman and then Route 66 to BIA-18. From the West, take I-40 to Kingman and then Route 66 to BIA-18.
There are no wrong turns in getting there. It's just not marked very well. BIA-18 dumps you off right into the employee parking lot and then the public parking lot next to the trail head. On the right side of the picture is a metal fence they tie the horses to for those who want a ride down. The trail head is at the end of the fence.
In the parking lot, it was too hot to sleep in the car with the windows closed and too many flies (due to the horses) to keep the windows open so Robbie and I drove back BIA-18 about 1/2 a mile where we found a flat area next to the canyon rim large enough to several tents. However, we were the only ones there though. It was a beautiful sunset, moonrise and sunrise. Pictures just cannot do it justice! NOTE: Robbie is 6 feet 6 inches tall and I am 6 feet even.
