High Plains
...nothing but grass can grow here unless a well is dug to provide water
Kiawo National Grasslands - grass and sharks teeth
Thousands of years ago, there was an inland sea which created sandstone and limestone rock layers. When the inland sea retreated, very little soil was left on top of the rock layers. When the Colorado uplift occurred, the band between the rockies and the High Plains actually went down a little exposing the edge of the high plains rock layers. According to a spokes person at the High Plains Museum in Goodland, KS, sharks teeth are still found from the inland sea.
