Electricity Arrives at Con. 8 1938 to 1939:
Over a period of 18 months,  the Con. 8 Community worked to obtain an average of two subscribers per mile that would allow the  installation of  electric power through the government program then called the REA.  The pages of the Student Review Newspaper  eloquently record  the community efforts and  reactions as electric lighting  grew  from a dream to a reality.   The clippings were collected by the owner of this page and through Don Ellis,  current District One Trustee for South West Rural Electric (SWRE),  they were  transmitted to Mike Searcy, then Manager for Member Relations for SWRE who edited them beautifully onto a page of the SWRE homesite.   Click here to go directly to that page .   There are other pages on the site dealing with the history of rural electrification come back here or use the back button, or goto selector.
