A Journey in to ones past can be a very interesting trip. We may find relatives from all over the world, from different countries and of different backgrounds. With genealogy, there is an uninterrupted sequence and procession of lineage to ones family line. As we step back into the past let us remember, for, if not for the past, we would have no future to continue our search for the ultimate goal of tasking and enjoyment of genealogy, threading the links together as if it were a fine tapestry.
When you start looking for your ancestors, you will find that it is not always in black and white, the facts sometimes change from document to document, from story to story.
On this page you will find the Surnames I am researching and links that will possibly help you trace your ancestors.
What is Genealogy? Genealogy is a record of the descent of a person or family from an ancestor; the pedigree or lineage of a person's family .
Where to start....FIRST: Write EVERYTHING down! Do not depend on memory to recall the information you are told. Start with yourself and work backwards. Then talk to your mother and father, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts and uncles and cousins. There are ways to make contact, in person, phone call, and in letters... One IMPORTANT suggestion: Do not press to hard for information when you ask questions, as I have found personally, there are things that people prefer or desire to keep private to themselves. Don't worry, eventually you WILL find these hidden secrets in a document somewhere in time.
Information you will need for your research: Full name (first, middle and last). Date of Birth (write out the month, day, and ALL four digits of the year), Place of birth (city, state, county and country). Social Security Number. Parents, brothers and sisters names and so on.. with the brothers and sisters, if they are married and have children, include that! With EVERY name you have, the above information is necessary for EACH person.
Other information that may help: Was the person in the military? Moved around alot? (The answer to this question will come in handy with census records). Were they married more than once(be careful with this one, this is one of those secrets you may find out in a document). Were they adopted? (do they know their birth parents and anything about them?).
Check ALL sources! Vital records (birth and death records),marriage records, courthouses,libraries, family friends, land deeds, wills, the search list is endless!
