| June 8, 2004 - USMTS Hamilton County Speedway - Webster City, IA Needed Caution Period Never Comes After a disappointing outing on Monday night in Corning, Crew Chief Larry Davis, made significant changes to the car before loading up for Webster City. It was a totally different car when we unloaded. The car which had been quite flat at Corning was laying over beautifully in the corners, and John was carrying the left front tire almost the entire way down the straightaway. It was an adjustment for John driving a tight race car rather than the extremely loose car he'd had the last several outings. In the heat the car was very fast, but he missed his corner entry a little on 2 occasions and lost a few positions. He slipped from his 6th place start to finish 9th in the heat. Although we were disappointed with the finish we were pumped about how fast the car was. He'd have to race hard in the B to make a top-5 transfer spot, as he'd start 11th. The car was awesome, he was again carrying the LF tire down the straights, and would advance to the 7th position. He'd be several car lengths back at that point, and would badly need a caution to bunch the field. Unfortunately, that caution period never came, and he'd miss an A-Feature transfer spot by just 2 positions. We had no doubt that if we'd have gotten a caution, we'd have gotten one of the transfer spots. BUT those are the breaks of racing and on this night we'd be loading up early to watch the 40 lapper that had Kelly Shryock taking home the win. We're anxious for our next outing in Deer Creek Speedway on June 15th. |
