Slick Track at Corning Leads to Struggles

The USMTS made their first ever visit to the fast 1/2 mile track in Corning, IA on June 7th.  The NASCAR track brags some very tight local modified racing.  John would start 6th in his heat, on the track that was dry & slick already for the heats.  The car was simply bad.  John struggled to find any forward bite, and was unable to move up in the race.  He would fade to 8th at the end of the race.  We made some adjustments prior to the B feature, but with 41 cars on hand, we'd have to make significant progress to gain a transfer spot.  Unfortunately that wasn't meant to be.  John would start 9th and fade to 11th at the end of his B feature.  Although the car was better than in the heat, we had no where near enough forward bite to run with this crowd.

Drastic measures were in line if we are going to run with these guys.  The long ride home from SW Iowa gave us plenty of time to reflect on just what changes needed to be made. Crew Chief Larry Davis was up for the task, and was working on the car early on Tuesday morning in preparation for the team's trip to Webster City on Tuesday evening.  He vowed that we weren't going to take the same car to Webster City on Tuesday night.
