Saturday, June 29, 2002 - Park Jefferson Speedway
Heat - John started 5th in his heat race, and quickly moved into the 2nd spot behind the #77t of Rick Schau. John came home with a solid 2nd place finish transferred to the A-Main. It looked like it would be a pretty good track, but only time would tell if the track would hold up.
A Feature - John's strong performance over the past 3 weeks put him back to a 10th place starting position for the A feature. The car was strong early, and he gained a few positions running the high side on a track that went extremely dry after the Sprint cars were at PJ the Friday night before. As the race wore on John would move down to the low side, and really struggled to find traction on the rubbered down race track. Rich Hesse who started 12th, and spun early on would come from the rear to a 4th place finish while Clark would start the race from the back and struggle to gain positions on the track as well. John wasn't able to move up much in the feature, and came home 7th. A solid run considering the track conditions.
Standings - Although not as good of a night as the previous 3 weeks, the 7th place position will be good enough to move John into a tie for the 2nd position in the standings with Clark. It's looking like we'll need Hesse to have problems to make up much ground on him, but we'll keep plugging away with solid top-5's and top-10's and see where the points fall at season's end. We're just over 1/3 of the way through the season. |
