Friday, August 10, 2001 - Crawford County Speedway (Denison, IA)
Heat - During hotlaps the crew noticed that the carbeurator was leaking at one of the connections and worked to get the car fixed before John's heat race. Although they were able to get the connection sealed up, it was not until after John's heat had gone out. John attempted to join the following heat race at the back, but the officials wouldn't let him do that. Since he's not a regular he would start at the back of the field anyway, so other than the loss of track time missing the heat race didn't hurt him too badly.
A Feature - John started 14th of 14 cars in the A and the track was extremely dry. We've struggled on dry tracks this season, and this night would be no different, John was unable to move up in the field, and would finish the race 10th behind Chuck Clark in 9th; the last two cars running.
Since we've been struggling to get a handle on the setup lately, we've decided to forego our scheduled trips to Owatonna and Webster City in the closing weeks of August. We instead decided to make a couple preparatory visits to Park Jefferson before the USMTS visits the track on August 30. We're hoping for some good showings on a track we're very familiar with and that we'll be able to have a good showing on the 30th. |
