As a small group of researchers we began to try to jointly discover our missing ancestors. We started looking for Curnuttes (and other variations of the spelling) and but soon discovered after viewing various legal documents that the name in fact varied depending on who was doing the writing. At times it was written as Curnutte, sometimes as Curnutt, other times as Carnute, and further investigation has led us to believe that sometimes these same families may have been listed as Cornutt and Cornett.
It will take hours and even years of piecing
together the evidence to discover just which families are related. In
order to try to facilitate this process we have determined to
preserve all information discovered about all the variations of this
name, hoping that somehow we will expedite each others research. This
is definately too much work for any one researcher. So as you are
reading those census records, county probate books, etc, please note
any of the spellings that closely approximate our name. It should be
noted that other spellings such as Curnitt, Kornut and Cournutt have
been discovered. The variations are many. By being alert and helping
to add all pertenent information to our site, we will be helping to
solve the mystery of who are ancestors were.
