Mystical Hand of the Amorous Monk, Miroku

Kagome- Mmm. That hits the spot.

Shippou- Kagome, are you sure youre back to normal already?

Kagome- Yes. For the tenth time today, I feel perfectly fine again. I can hardly believe the old demon managed to suck my soul out of me. But Im back to my old self now. (I wish I could say the same for InuYasha, though. Since his run in with Kikyou, hes been spending a lot of time just staring off into space.)

InuYasha- (I just dont know anymore. So I gather all the shards of the Shikon Jewel to become a full-fledged demon. And then what? Even id I do fully become a demon, will that make me stronger inside? Can I ever truly forget Kikyou?)

Shippou- Look at him. Ive never seen him act this way before.

Kagome- Neither have I.

Shippou- Take that!

InuYasha- Bad move. Whatd you do that for, shrimp?

Shippou- To knock some sense into you. Were supposed to be looking for the jewel shards.

InuYasha- Get off my back. Even a guy like me needs some time to think once in a while.

Shippou- Yeah, thats whats worrying me.

InuYasha- Worry about this. Come back here

Shippou- Cant catch me, can you, big oaf?

InuYasha- you little pipsqueak! Now youve done it.

Shippou- (laughs)

Kagome- The Shikon Jewel is enshrouded in such misery. Kikyou claims that InuYasha betrayed her. And InuYasha says that it was the other way around. How could two versions of the same story be so different? I only hope that the puzzle will be solved once weve found all the shards of the jewel.

~~ Title ~~
Mystical Hand of the Amorous Monk, Miroku

Miroku- So I should go right.

Man- Have you heard about the new woman working at the rest house up ahead?

Man #2- They say her fair complexion and beautiful eyes are up paralleled and I understand shes unattached.

Man- (chuckles) I could use a bite to eat.

Man #2- Just what I was thinking.

Miroku- Divine intervention. Surely they cant be speaking of the same young woman I recall.

Woman- Your sweets are ready.

Miroku- Uh, thanks. Should have stuck to the right.

Man #2- Just between us, I understand that the daughter of the lord in this region has been possessed by some sort of evil spirit and has taken to her bed.

Man- Hell require the aid of a skilled priest, then.

Oyakata- Are you certain this monk is virtuous and trust worthy.

Servant- If one is to believe his claims, then aye, my lord.

Oyakata- Monk, you must drive away the evil spirit possessing my child, or youll receive nothing.

Miroku- My, living in opulence in such turbulent times as these. Surely your vassals must resent your wealth.

Oyakata- Impudence! Princess, a monk has come to offer his blessings.

Miroku- Pardon me. Allow me to see her. Her face is terribly swollen.

Oyakata- It is always so. Are you certain you are truly a monk?

Miroku- Huh? Tell me about that statue.

Oyakata- I received it from an impoverished nobleman. They say it is a blessed idol.

Miroku- Hmm. I am prepared to begin. Leave the princess here with me and tale everyone else on the grounds outside the residence gates.

Oyakata- Huh?

Miroku- And my Lord, mark my words, no matter how alarming the sounds from within, you must not peer inside.

Oyakata- Oh. Hmm.

Miroku- Now then, I shall commence the exorcism. Very well, come out at once and surrender peacefully and I shall show you mercy. I should have known you would not give in easily. A weasel demon. How very befitting. Huh Uh. That glow a shard of the Sacred Jewel. Hmya. Ya!

Weasel- (growls)

Oyakata- The beast sounds fearsome indeed.

Vassal #1- It certainly does.

Vassal #2- We should take a look inside, my Lord.

Oyakata- No, Well wait. He said we must not peer inside until her have us the word. Besides, I want to make sure the demon is long gone.

Vassal #2- It sounds less like an exorcism and more like the mansion is being pillaged.

Oyakata- I still say we should wait. So this weasel was the culprit. And this small animal turned into a demon and possessed you?

Princess- Yes.

Oyakata- And what of that young monk?

Princess- He gave me no name, but left with my heart.

Vassal #3- My Lord, I regret I have terrible news to bring you.

Oyakata- (gasps)

Vassal #3- All of your valuables have been stolen.

Vassal #2- Including three of the best horses.

Oyakata- Ive been had.

Miroku- Now then, I must find a place to pawn these off. (sighs) How disappointing. An entire cartload of spoils and they fetched but a small price. Even so, this shard of the Shikon Jewel made it worth my while.

Kagome- Oh yeah. Now this is what I call a hot spring.

Miroku- Hmm.

Kagome- Ahh.

Miroku- (A girl? she wears a shard of the Shikon Jewel and theyre I mean its huge.)

Kagome- Dont even think about peeking at me.

Miroku- Uh.

InuYasha- Dont flatter yourself. I got no interest in looking.

Kagome- Oh, is that so? Well, fine then.

InuYasha- Hey, why are you getting undressed?

Shippou- Give you one guess.

InuYasha- Oh, no you dont.

Shippou- Oops, sorry, you wanna come?

InuYasha- Huh?

Shippou- Wait, come to think of it how come you and Kagome spend so much time together and yet you never seem to bathe at the same time?

InuYasha- Yuh.

Shippou- think of all the fun thing you can do when theres two of you.

InuYasha- Listen, kid

Shippou- Mom, Dad and I always took baths together and we had a really great time.

InuYasha- Remind me to explain it to you when youre a bit bigger.

Shippou- Guess that means you havent gotten very far with Kagome yet, right?

InuYasha- Uh!?

Shippou- I dont know what that means, but no one seems will to be willing to answer.

InuYasha- (grumbling)

Shippou- I wonder why?

InuYasha- Ill tell you why in about fifty years when youre old enough to understand it.

Shippou- Just and innocent question. Whatd I say?

Kagome- Ahh. (Okay, so maybe Im not the beauty that Kikyou was.) (gasps) (screams)

Shippou- Uh.

InuYasha- Whats wrong? (grunting)

Miroku- Shes with another man. Too bad. I hate having to resort to violence.

Hatchi- (yipes) Allow me to explain. I merely wish for a guarantee.

Miroku- I told you, that youd be compensated.

Hatchi- Yes.

Kagome- Come on, cant you try to see the humor in it? So I bonked you on the head. you saw me naked, so cant we say were even?

InuYasha- I saw nothing.

Kagome- He did right?

Shippou- I dont know. I was looking somewhere else.

Hatchi- So its the fellow in red you want me to attack?

Miroku- Right. Meanwhile, I shall make off with the girl.

Hatchi- I still dont get it. Why go to all this trouble when you could just use your powerful right hand and have the jewel in a matter of seconds?

Miroku- Dont be a fool. Surely you know better than that. If I used this hand, everyone in the vicinity would die.

Hatchi- How could I have forgotten? I hope you remember who your friends are if this should somehow get out of control.

Miroku- You can count on it, my friend.

Hatchi- Nya ah!

InuYasha- Huh?

Kagome- Huh?

Hatchi- I have come for ye!

Inu Tachi- (scream)

Kagome- InuYasha! (Yelps) What do you think youre doing?

Miroku- Fear not, young lady. You have no reason to doubt my intentions. I am nothing more than a simple monk A monk who desired a jewel shard, and got himself a young woman in the process.

Kagome- What am I, a consolation prize?

InuYasha- (groaning) Kagome? Whos the guy? Wheres he taking her to? Dont take this personally, but I got better things to do.

Hatchi- Aah! Dont kill me, Im but an innocent badger.

Miroku- Huh. Your friend is a violent one.

InuYasha- Explain yourself! Why did you attack me? Huh? (grunts) Uh.

Kagome- InuYasha! Let me go.

Miroku- Gladly. Seeing as I have what I desire. Hmm.

InuYasha- Uh, um, aah.

Kagome- Hey, are you alright?

InuYasha- That creep. Who the heck was that guy, anyway?

Kagome- He did mention something about being a monk, but what was the deal with his right hand?

InuYasha- (Yeah, Ive never see such a strong storm come from out of nowhere. It was like the wind from his hand was pulling in everything in its path.)

Kagome- (gasps) Oh, no! that monk just took off with my bike. you creep!

InuYasha- Like that matters. You were being kidnapped. Dontcha think thats more important? I cant turn my back on you people for a second.

Kagome- You were worried about me. Sorry.

InuYasha- Sorry for what? I never said I was worried about you. I was only thinking about the jewel shards.

Kagome- Speaking of which, he took more than the bike, he got the jewel too.

InuYasha- What?!

~~ Commercial ~~

Villagers- (mumbling) Uh What I dont know Look at the speed No

InuYasha- Lousy thief. Ill find him yet. He cannot have gotten too far. Ill hunt the fraud down.

Kagome- Come on, InuYasha. Whats taking you?

InuYasha- Get off my back. Theres a lot of smells to sift through, all right?

Kagome- Well, hurry up. People are staring.

Shippou- Im with Kagome. They dont look very friendly.

InuYasha- Where did that miserable thief go?

Different Man #1- What, is he some manner of beast?

Kagome- See what I mean?

Man #1- The young man and the boy are odd enough, but look a that strange girl.

Different Man #2- Is she a demon?

Kagome- Uh. Who me?

InuYasha- See how it feels? (sniffing)

Kagome- Hey, maybe he never even came through here.

InuYasha- He was here, all right. I can smell em.

Kagome- Even if he did pass though, a thief wouldnt just be hanging around in a place like (gasps).

InuYasha- Hum?

Geisha- Would anyone like to dance?

Other Geishas- Would anyone like to dance?

Miroku- So much for their claim of having beautiful geishas. I would have had a better time if I had gone drinking with the badger.

InuYasha- Gotcha!

Kagome- Busted bicycle thief.

Geishas- Uh!

Miroku- Im so glad youre here.

Geishas- Oh!

Miroku- Its too good to be true. Youre a real sight for sore eyes.

InuYasha- Heh. Ill give you sore eyes!

Geishas- (whimper)

Miroku- You again. I should have figured as much.

InuYasha- Yeah, you should have. Funny, thats just what I was thinking. But I guess not all of us are blessed with good looks and brains. Dont suppose youd be interested in handing over that jewel fragment you stole from us.

Miroku- A gem such as this does not belong in the hands of a demon.

InuYasha- Well see about that!

Geishas- (cries of fear)

InuYasha- Hya. Aya!

Miroku- (panting) Uh.

InuYasha- On, no you dont.

Miroku- (more panting)

InuYasha- (growl panting) Come back here and fight like a man.

Miroku- I will not fight a senseless battle.

InuYasha- (grunting) All a matter of opinion. Hya. Ya!

Miroku- (grunts)

InuYasha- (He blocked the Tetsusaiga. I knew it. Hes no ordinary mortal.)

Miroku- Youll be punished, if thats what you insist. Hya.

InuYasha- Hmm. I dont know who you are, but youre no monk.

Miroku- I go by the name Miroku. And yes, I am a monk, who works to aid the common man.

Villagers- (chattering)

Villager- Whats happening?

Villager#2- Why are they just standing there?

Villager #3- Beware, Villagers! A monk is about to slay the demon!

InuYasha- Work to aid the common man. Youre nothing but a sleazy robber. Now give us back our shard of the Shikon Jewel. We went to a lot of trouble to get it, and were not going to lose it now.

Miroku- Touching speech. I know you went to great pains to collect this gem, but trust me, its in better hands with me, InuYasha.

InuYasha- Huh, so you know who I was all along.

Miroku- Not at all.

InuYasha- Hyuah.

Miroku- Was it that beautiful companion of yours that called toy by name or the young fox?

InuYasha- (growling)

Kagome- Uh, he cant be all bad if he has such good taste.

Shippou- Snap out of it, Kagome. He stole your jewel from under your nose.

InuYasha- Enough talking. Lemme atcha! Hya uh! Uh! Yah! Uh! Yuh!

Miroku- (Fairly strong, but not strong enough.)

InuYasha- (Curse him! He blocks every strike.) Uhu!

Miroku- Hyu.

InuYasha- Uhy!

Miroku- Hyu, uh, wha.

InuYasha- Hya!

Miroku- Ah! Uh?

InuYasha- Ill have that jewel shard back from you now, unless youd rather die that is?

Miroku- Hmm. Uh!

InuYasha- Huh? As you wish.

Miroku- Villagers, take heed! Distance yourself from this place; I warn you its for your own safety.

Villagers- (murmuring)

Kagome- Huh?

Miroku- (panting) Hum.

InuYasha- End of the line. This time victory is mine.

Miroku- Hmm.

InuYasha- (Hes holding out his right hand.)

Miroku- This may come as something of a surprise, but Im a very sore loser. Wind tunnel!

InuYasha- Uh! Eh! Ya! Uh! Its just like back at the cliff. Where is the wind coming from? His right hands drawing it in.

Miroku- Lets see how long you can withstand me.

InuYasha- Eh. Uh, ya.

Villagers- (scream) Run away! Quickly. Well be drawn in to our deaths.

Kagome- His hands just like a black hole. Its sucking up everything that isnt nailed down.

InuYasha- (grunting)

Shippou- Wed better escape from her while we can.

Kagome- We have to stop him.

Shippou- Huh?

Kagome- But how do we do that?

Flashback (Kagome Remembering)
Miroku- Villagers, take heed! Distance yourself from this place!
End Flashback

Kagome- (He warned the villagers because he doesnt want to hurt humans.)

InuYasha- Uh. Cant let go.

Miroku- Surrender while you can. If you get sucked in, youll never come out alive.

InuYasha- Uh, no chance. Yah! Ill be too busy hacking you right hand off to surrender.

Miroku- My hand will pull you in, sword and all. Huh?

InuYasha- Huh? Kagome!

Miroku- Uh. Yah. (grunting) Uh. Yah.

Kagome- Uh.

Miroku- Uh!

InuYasha- Kagome!

Kagome- Oh, my head. Huh? (Those prayer beads. Theyre what seals off the power of his hand. He stopped the assault on his own, meaning he cant be all that bad.)

InuYasha- Huh. Kagome, are you crazy? You could have gotten yourself killed.

Kagome- I wouldnt have done it if Id had any doubts. With a hand that powerful, he could have killed us a long time ago if hed wanted t. Lets at least give him a chance. Maybe he could lend us a hand. (screams)

InuYasha- Huh? (growls)

Kagome- I was wrong. Kill him!

InuYasha- You just blew your last chance.

Kagome- (grumbling)

Miroku- Settle down, will you? Let me explain things. I too, am in search of the shards of the Shikon Jewel. My purpose is to find and eliminate a demon A terrible demon that goes by the name of Naraku.

Kagome- Naraku?

Miroku- Yes, and it was this same demon who left me with this cursed hole in my right hand.

Kagome- What sort of demon is this thing?

Miroku- I know little of him except that he is very wicked and thought to devour people.

Kagome- Yeah, go on.

Miroku- According to Father, my grandfather battled Naraku long ago in his youth. It was over 50 years ago. Their battle ensued for several years, and each time Naraku appeared before my grandfather, he took on the form of a different human.

Kagome- He was a shape-shifter, seriously?

Miroku- They say that the last time that he appeared before my grandfather, he took on the form of a beautiful woman. My grandfather had great spiritual powers, but unfortunately as fate would have it

Kagome- Dont tell me. He was a lecher.

Miroku- Remarkable intuition.

Flashback
Miyatsu- (grunts)

(Voice Over During Flashback)
Miroku- Naraku pierce my grandfathers right hand with his sacred religious seals (Miyatsu screams) and managed to escape.

Naraku- The abyssal hole that I have cursed you with shall be passed down to your children, and their children, so long as I live. Each generation shall thus be cursed until no one remains.
End Flashback

Miroku- Each year, the hole in my hand becomes bigger and the wind ever more powerful. Unless I can defeat Naraku, I myself will be devoured by the hole.

Kagome- So in other words, you mean it would kill you?

Miroku- Yes, and I am prepared to accept that fate if such is truly my destiny. But in the meantime, I must continue trying to stop Naraku. The Sacred Jewel of the Four Souls vanished fifty years ago and now its scattered into many tiny shards. Knowing Naraku, he is certain to attempt to gather the fragments in order to strengthen his own malicious power. Im sure of it. I know because Naraku once came close to getting the jewel fifty years ago. In doing so, he slew the priestess protecting it.

InuYasha- (gasps) You say he killed a priestess?

Miroku- Thats right.

InuYasha- (He must be the demon who disguised himself as me and struck down Kikyou! It must be him!) Miroku, you say this Naraku takes on all kinds of different forms, right? What about now? What does he look like now?

Miroku- Calm down. If I had that information, I would have slain him long ago myself.

InuYasha- (Naraku laid a trap for Kikyou and me. He made us believe we deceived each other. The demon who killed Kikyou is still alive and is after the Sacred Jewel Fragments. I will hunt down Kikyous killer and avenger her death.) (growls)

Kagome- If we keeps looking for these jewel fragments, were sure to run into Naraku ourselves sooner or later.

Miroku- How did you get that back?

Kagome- Lets search for the jewel shards together.

Miroku- Uh

Kagome- Unless you plan on giving up, InuYasha.

InuYasha- Im never giving up.

Kagome- What do you say?

Miroku- Uh Ive always been more of a solitary man, preferring to work on my own than in the company of others.

Kagome- Yeah, but if you dont act fast, you wont even have your own company to enjoy.

Miroku- Dear Kagome, are you troubled by this wretched fate of mine?

Kagome- Sort of.

Miroku- Then do me this good turn, will you? I wish for you to bear me a son.

Kagome- Heke?

InuYasha- Huh?

Kagome- And why would I do that?

Miroku- If for some unforeseeable reason I should fail to destroy Naraku, I should like my son to carry on the familys mission.

Kagome- Uh.

Miroku- (sighs)

InuYasha- Hands off, priest. Your only family mission is lechery.

Miroku- Im a monk, not a priest.

InuYasha- Dont ever consider laying a hand on Kagome again.

Kagome- InuYasha?

Miroku- Oh, I beg your pardon. I thought you no more that a companion. But apparently you are in love with Kagome.

InuYasha- Uh

Miroku- My, this is awkward.

InuYasha- (shudders) Well, youve got it all wrong. Shes just a jewel detector.

Kagome- Huh? Is that all I am to you? Oh, how could I forget, youve got a thing for dead girls.

Miroku- Huh?

InuYasha- Huh?

Kagome- Who should I help out? Mirokus a lot nicer than InuYasha.

InuYasha- You wouldnt dare betray me!

Miroku- You cant really blame her. You know you could treat her more kindly.

InuYasha- Ha! What do you know?

Shippou- Well, so much for everyone coming to a peaceful conclusion. I never want to grow up.

Kagome- You know calling me a jewel detector, you could learn a thing or two.

Miroku- You could be more gentle.

Kagome- Yes, exactly! Be more gentle!

Miroku- Like this.

Kagome- (screams) Aah! Get your hands off me!

InuYasha- I told you not to touch her!

Things of interest---

~ Hatchi is not really a badger he is a tanuki, which is a raccoon like animal indigenous to Japan.

~ On Mirokus line You again. I should have figured as much. The Closed Captioning reads out that he says the word Beast at the very beginning of the line, but after listening to it several times over I could not hear it.

~ Miyatsu- in the second movie (Castle Beyond the Looking Glass) Mirokus grandfather is referred to and given the name Miyatsu, hence why I use it here.

~Oyakata- is the name of the Lord as given to him in the original Japanese, it is in the subtitles and his men call him by name.

~ Kagomes line You know calling me a jewel detector, you could learn a thing or two. is said under Shippous previous line and is not in the closed captioning. I listened to it about 50 times and tried my best to make out what she was saying, but it was difficult. This is the best I could come up with.

~ Also you ight be interested to know that this is one of the few episodes that actually did have things cut out of it for the VIZ adaptation. The scene with the hot spring in the beginning of the episode is longer. And there is no doubt that Shippou is indeed a boy in the original. Its small and not focused on, but its there. Also it is explained that the thing that Kagome screamed at was a couple of monkeys.
