Eastern Eggs

I bring you, Eastern Eggs. One of the things I love the most about DVDs is the special features, and that includes what have been dubbed Easter Eggs (I guess because they are hidden and we have to look for them to find them). Anime companies are getting into it too. Given there aren't very many yet, but there are some. I will try to keep a list of some of the ones I have found, and have read about up for you. Some of them come from me playing around, some I read about in one of my magazines (see disclaimer at bottom of the page) and some I am told about. Either way enjoy, and if you have any you would like to share email me and let me know. I will give you full credit fo finding the egg.

InuYasha

Volume 9- Origin of the Sacred Jewel
From the Main Menu access the 'Extras' option. Press RIGHT on your remote until the head of "Naraku" is highlighted. Select his "head" to reveal a short bonus clip that was cut from the show! (This is actually taken from the DVD Easter Egg site The DVD Dungeon)And is also listed in Anime Insider Issue #17. This is one that Kestrel first told me about, but didn't give me details. I then found it on this site. I don't own this particular volume but I rented it from RentAnime.com and I now have the info for you. It's not really all that. It is simply a couple of second blooper of Miroku in the episode "The Lake of the Eveil Water God" in which he says "Cool, who else is hungry?"

FullMetal Alchemist

All Volumes
From the MAIN MENU go to EPISODES and select any episode you want, they all have it (save for a few like episode 24). The go to where you have the IV (4th) chapter selected and hit the RIGHT ARROW on your remote. A little red Homunculi symbol (the Serpent of Ouroboros, the serpent that devours its own tail) should light up. They are the original previews with the Japanese voice cast acting silly. They are really fun.
LoL I was actaully bring an episode up so Pip could hear something and hit a button wrong and what should happen? A little icon lights up. I squeaked so loud I hurt her ears. I love finding the eggs on my own.

These are just from Volume 1, but you get the point

Fruits Basket

Disk 3- Puddles of Memories
"go to the EXTRAS menu. Enter "10" on your remote control. You'll get access to a series of dub outtakes..." as well as Kyo's tender song (track 12 that I haven't been able to make sense of a title for) sung in English. It sounds odd, but it does work.
This one came from Anime Insider Issue #8

Rurouni Kenshin

Volume 6- Flames of Revolution
Go to EXTRAS, Select LINER NOTES, press right and it will light up a faint egg shape that when selected will show a preview clip of the beginning of The Kyoto Files (or whatever they are called). It is the same preview as on the end of playing the episodes.
This one I found playing around, I saw the egg shape and knew it was some kinda goodie trying to hide.

Spirited Away

"Go to BONUS FEATURED menu. Make sure the "Introduction by John Lasseter" is highlighted and press UP key on your remote control. You'll see a new menu entry, titled "Meet Hayao Miyazaki." Press ENTER and you'll be treated to a hidden interview with the man himself, director Hayao Miyazaki."
This one is again out of Anime Insider Issue #8

Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon the Movie S: Hearts in Ice
"Select EXTRA STUFF from the main menu. Highlight Transformation Scenes, then press LEFT. The cresent moon on Luna's forehead should be highlighted. Pressing SELECT while the moon is highlighted will unlock the scene when Luna transforms into a human."
This one comes from Rebecca Bundy in Anime Insider #19
I have tried this one and I my particular copy of the movie it doesn't work. So it may only be on a certain pressing of the DVD, cause I know there were a frew different ones.

Case Closed

Case 4 Volume 1 (Case Closed 2: Deadly Illusions)
"To access some dubbing outakes, go to the EXTRAS MENU and select the "Crack the Case" game. Click the ENTER CODE option and eitehr press ENTER again or enter an invalid code. Once that's done. press the menu button on your remote (it will bring back the EXTRAS menu) and pres the menu button again to start the outtakes."
You guessed it another Anime Insider one, this time Issue 20. (I told you it was one of my fave magazines.

Disclaimer: The term Eastern Eggs came from the section in the now monthly Anime Insider. Which is a good magazine, one of my faves in fact. Check them out.
