About Ojamajo Doremi |
Ojamajo Doremi is the story of Doremi, a girl who wants to be a witch. She accidently outs a real witch, who gets turned into a blob-like creature because of it. Thanks to that mistake, Doremi becomes an apprentice witch in order to someday return the witch to normal. The series follows Doremi, and later her friends, as they try to become witches.
Ojamajo Doremi was produced by Toei Animation, and started airing in February, 1999. A manga also ran in Nakayoshi magazine. It had 201 TV episodes, two theatrical features, and a 13 episode OAV series. Doremi’s popularity rivaled Sailor Moon it its heyday, being one of the most watched anime on Japanese TV during its run. The series is also popular overseas, where it’s known as “Magical DoReMi”, airing in East Asia, Europe, and Latin America. English is actually one of the last major languages that Ojamajo Doremi will be dubbed in.
4Kids Entertainment announced licensing the rights to Doremi in November, 2004, although they might have had it as soon as a year before the official statement. The English language dub of “Magical DoReMi” started airing on 4Kids!TV during the fall of 2005.
