The unshriven Host of the Wild Hunt (not the whispering goth kids of SH).
- Court: Unseelie
- Birthrights:
- Immunity: From their ties to the Underworld, sluagh have in
a sense "built up a tolerance for death," and gain a free retest in
any challenge that may lead to their being killed or mortally wounded.
- Bans: Cold Iron binding negates Birthrights, and choose one:
Never speak above a whisper; repelled by holy symbols; Seeming fails
temporarily in moonlight; never regain Mana except through Reaping.
- Weakness: Cold Iron.
- Binding: If the sluagh is bound in cold iron (or possibly guarded
by holy symbols if the sluagh has that Ban) and remains so bound at sunset,
his immortal soul cannot return until the next sunset -- and so on.
- Regaining Mana: Reaping, Mana Stealing, Ravaging.
- Preferred Disciplines: Auspex, Obfuscate, Serpentis OR Thaumaturgy (Path of Curses; Path of Oneiromancy) OR
Necromancy (any; often the Ash Path is primary; the Vitreous Path is common as a secondary path)
- Origin: If it is true that sluagh are the unshriven souls of
mortals slain by Reaping, then at least some of them will have an Earthly origin,
with a pre-"death" life of any kind whatsoever. Such sluagh, unlike
"real" undead, will be fully fairies, however, and will have almost
certainly have cast aside any need for a morality system as well as most mortal
ties. Newer ones may well attempt to live among mortals, perhaps even peacefully.
- Appearance: Sluagh in their fae forms are equally likely to
appear as hollow-cheeked cadavers or bloated corpses; they may usually be distinguished
from the undead by their all-black eyes, pointed ears, and lack of teeth. Some
sluagh may be able to pass as particularly unhealthy humans without using the
Seeming Background. During the day, this is certainly true.
