These are Discipline Add-Ons that require a combination of two different Disciplines.
Form of the Kraken (prerequisite: Vicissitude 4, Serpentis
4; cost: as an Intermediate in-clan Discipline, but does not count as a dot
in either parent Discipline): The grindylow have learned to combine the scary
monster powers of two of their favorite Disciplines, turning themselves
into a nightmarish, tentacled sea-thing -- okay, make that a giant nightmarish,
tentacled sea-thing. The form combines all of the advantages of the Vicissitude
Horrid Form and the Serpentis Form of the Serpent, and
even onlookers who have seen normal grindylow before must, upon
first seeing the Form of the Kraken and on each occasion,
spend a Willpower trait or be frozen in shock for one turn, as per the grindylows
Pelagic Nightmare Birthright. -- This power costs 3 Mana traits and requires
at least one turn for the transformation to take effect, more if the grindylow
cannot spend 3 Mana traits at once.
Heart-Slavery (prerequisite: Vicissitude 3, Serpentis
5; cost: as an Intermediate Serpentis power, but does not count as a
dot in Serpentis): The grindylow have developed a special
power that allows them to steal the heart of a mortal or even another immortal,
completely enslaving them for as long as they keep it (usually in a box somewhere).
Heart-slavery falsely evokes romantic notions, but victims become
little more than emotionless drones, incapable of resistance; as an extra incentive
to obedience -- although heart-slaves barely feel fear -- the grindylow may
choose to destroy the heart at any time, killing the slave. Mere Enchanted thralldom
is a reward the grindylow bestow upon favored mortals; heart-slavery is used
for servants who do not require free will to carry out their duties, or as a
punishment (especially when used on other fae; merfolk and ondines taken captive
by the grindylow can usually expect this fate). -- System: The grindylow
spends a Willpower trait and must defeat the victim in a Physical challenge;
immortal creatures require two followup simple tests as in a staking
challenge. Heart-slaves are effectively Conditioned (as Dominate),
lose all ties in Social challenges with the grindylow who has stolen their heart,
and may not spend Willpower to resist their master nor regain Willpower traits
spent for other reasons for as long as their enslavement lasts.
