First of all, give us a short biography of the band and introduce the
band members....
Originally we are all from northern Germany, but nowadays live spread out
over the whole country in cities like Hamburg, Schwerin, L?beck, Berlin
oder Leipzig. The band started in 1991 and 2006 was the 15 years
anniversary. During the whole time there was only one major change in the
line up. 1996 Stahmer entered as second guitar player and 1998 Boris took
over on bass and Tost on drums, and that?s what the line is like today:
Robert- Guitar
Hinkel- Vocals
Stahmer- Guitar
Tost- Drums
Boris- Bass
We are quite happy with this line up, cause it sometimes gives you a hard
time to keep the band goin beside nightshifts, families and the distances
between the members of the band. It shows that the band is really
important to us all.
How would you describe your music and what are your basic influences?
Someone who has never been labelled has to put up an own one and our?s is
called Chaos Rock?n?Roll. Oi! is maybe not enough as we always try new
musical influences and instruments. The influences come from various
backgrounds and I could not name any bands for that reason. The tolerance
for other types of music grew during the years when we got older. From our
point of view it has to be good music which we all like, but you can be
sure that we listen to a lot of Oi!, Punk, HC, Ska and Soul!
Over 10 years of Volxsturm, tell us some of your highlights so far...
In 2007 we exist 16 years now and we still enjoy every moment. To name a
few highlights is difficult cause each band member has different moments
to remember. Our first record was a blast and we are still always very
excited when a new record is on the way, a shirt is designed or if we play
a gig where people are really into our music and we see this magic fire in
the eyes of our audience.
You have played a gig in Athens, tell us about that experience and what
do you think about the greek scene...
years ago Fotis from the SUC asked us if we would play a gig in Athens.
Of course we were happy to come. We had our tickets ready and had a very
warm welcome in Greece. Everything in Greece went fine from the
organisation to the big hospitality peopled showed us everywhere. The gig
was packed and people really went crazy. With a lot of them we are still
in touch through MySpace.
Since you made a song in your new record called SKINHEAD.UNITY.CREW. we
have to ask you what this means to you and what is your connection with
the guys from S.U.C.
We built up such a close relationship to SUC that we invited Bootstroke to
Germany for a few shows, we even visited them again and devoted a song on
the new album Lichter meiner Stadt to them. The scene down there
reminded us lot like it was in the 90s over here in eastern Germany,
that?s why we haven chosen a classic skinhead reggae sound for this song.
What do you think about political movements inside the skinhead culture?
It depends on how you define politics. I am not too fond of influence
people cause everybody has his own head and brain to think and can check
what is right for him and what not. I just think it?s important to get a
distance from some rightwing freaks, who try to use our scene, which has
nothing to do with the scene itself. It?s is always some of those idiots
who get into the public to damage the image of the real skinheads.
Do you like football? Which teams do you support?
Well, I am maybe the only not soccer interested band member. The other 4
are all fans, some of them even played in junior teams and have season
tickets for their teams. However this really never is a topic within the
band, just to make fun of each other.
Future plans?
We enjoy playing shows, and we hope we can carry on like this and play to
a lot of big crowds and make more records. We will be there for a while,
but no ones knows what the future will bring.
Any last words? Feel free to write whatever you
want...
Greetings to the SUC, Bootstroke, Soberphobia and Dina and all our mates
down in Greece. Once there will be the day when we meet again!
