A quick history of the band.
On File started in 1997 and they recorded the Monday thru to Friday 7 and the Ejected from the Premises album, shortly after the band split up with only Hedgy remaining,
Greg & Stewart then joined the band and On File started gigging live regularly. We then released the Another day in Paradise EP, the Real Mcoi! Album and the Birds dont like the skinheads EP. Gordy replaced Greg on Bass a few years ago and we now have Paul on guitar making us a 4 piece! Weve played in most European countries over the years and have played everywhere from small pubs to big festivals and back again!
How would you describe your music?
If you are a skinhead then the lyrics should be familiar to you, drinking beer, fighting, having a laugh, girls, Dr Martens, having pride in yourself, its all in there. Musically On File sound like a cross between early Oi! bands and 77 punk bands, mid paced singalong music & the oi! oi! beat!
What are your influences?
We listen to everything punk and oi! and a bit more besides, including all the old bands and a lot of the new ones & luckily we get to see a lot of new up and coming bands when were playing abroad. We try to keep the On File sound when were writing new songs and not change our style.
Which football team do you support?
Hedgy is a regular at Dundee FC, and Stewart supports Glasgow Rangers. Paul & Gordy dont follow football but of course we all support Scotland!
Your plans for the future (gigs, new album)?
Weve started booking gigs for 2007 and there quite a lot happening, were off to Milan & Athens in January. Weve also just recorded a new track for a British oi! Compilation and have written new tracks for a split with Bakers Dozen which were going to record early in 2007. After that were looking to do a full length album
What do you think of politics (right-wing or left-wing) ?
In Scotland, we only care about getting finished work on a Friday and going down the pub, theres no problems with politics. In the scene here theres plenty people that like to declare they are left wing or right wing but its like this & its easy to declare yourself SHARP and sing about beating up Nazis if you know youre never going to meet any (and vice versa)
What do you think of the scene today?
The scene is good in Britain and Scotland but its better in Europe (especially Germany) In Britain its diluted by a lot of bands that class themselves as Oi! or Streetpunk then when people go to see them they are disappointed. This results in smaller crowds unless big name band like the Business etc... are playing. Were quite happy going to watch bands in Scotland or in the UK but we prefer to play abroad with On File.
Any last words?
Cheers for the interview, try and pick up some of our music if you havent already heard us and look out for a new release in 2007! |
