Poems: January 2006

Back to Me
The air turns cold
as the snow starts to fall
I stare out the window
waiting for your call

Like my heart
the ground freezes
My body grows numb
no longer feeling the icy breezes

I stare into the distance
not seeing a thing
My mind loses it's cohesiveness
a state only loneliness can bring

I fall back
into the snow
You aren't coming
this I know

The world turns black
my heart stops beating
My body dies
my memories fleeting

I know not how long
I lie there for
Maybe a week
maybe months or more

A golden glow
fills the sky
My heart starts beating
although I know not why

A warm hand
caresses my face
A familiar sensation
that I could not place

My eyes flutter open
taking in the light
I wince and blink
a little too bright

My eyes focus on your face
my heart-beat triples in speed
You've come back to me
as I lie here in the grass and weeds

A gentle smile on your lips
as you slowly lower them to mine
The moment our lips touch
I know everything will be fine

You apologize
for what kept you away
I hardly listen
trying to keep the memories at bay

I know very well
what took you away from me
What kept you at arms length
and what you threatened to be

Your words were harsh but true
meant to relieve
My heart threatened to break
but I refused to believe

You would come back to me
this I knew
You wouldn't stay away
because our love is true

Now you're here
with your arms around me
I know you'll stay
because with me, you're meant to be
