Backyard Critters  May 2000

A pair of red-shouldered hawks worked on several nests for over 2 weeks near us.  This one was within easy naked eye view in the backyard. Ultimately, they chose to nest elsewhere.

Since very early in spring we've had a pair of mallards fly in daily to check things out. Just about every evening, the drake arrives around dinner time to check out the platform feeder.  Once in a while, the female joins him. In this shot, a squirrel is also visiting.

We've seen 6 of 7 woodpeckers known to exist in OHIO in OUR backyard: downy, hairy, pileated, red-bellied and lastly
red-headed. What's missing? Yellow-bellied sapsucker!!!
