FORMERCELEBRITYCRUSHES
celebrity--noun. 1: a widely known person; "he was a baseball celebrity"
crush--noun. 3: temporary love of an adolescent [syn: puppy love, calf love, infatuation]
celebrity crush--noun. a temporary love for a widely known person.

I've had many a celebrity crush. Most of which are embarrasing. So read about 'em.

Danny Cooksey, September 1993 to May 1995

remember that show on Nickelodeon Salute Your Shorts? Remember Budnick, the guy with the long red hair? Yup, my first celeb crush was on him. This was through most of second and third grade. The only people who knew this though was my soccer team, and they all thought I was weird. Now he does cartoon character voices, notably Montana Max on Tiny Toons and Milo on Pepper Ann.

Rider Strong, September 1994 to May 2000

I started liking Rider, aka Shawn, about the time he grew his hair out really long and when he was living with Mr. Turner on Boy Meets World. I always preferred him to Cory, aka Ben Savage. Sadly, the years have not been kind to poor Rider. Damn.

Josh Jackson, October 1994 to present

It doesn't even matter if he's going by Joshua or Josh anymore. Josh Jackson is one of my Lifelong crushes. I first fell in love with him in The Mighty Ducks when he was Charlie Conway. Later, I followed him onto Dawson's Creek. Forget Dawson, man. DC was all about Pacey Witter. In October of this year, I will have crushed on JJ for a decade. Josh, I salute you.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas, November 1995 to February 1996

Yes, I joined the JTT bandwagon. I used to obsess over that shaggy haircut he had and how "cute" he was. The odd part was that I had never seen a single episode of Home Improvement. At last check, he was still not that bad to look at, but dude, he's short for a guy. I must say that he was VERY cute in Tom and Huck.

Austin O'Brien, January 1996 to early 1997

Remember the dude that Anna Clumsky's character Vada went around LA with in My Girl 2--Nick? That's Austin. When I saw him in that movie I got it bad. I was always writing about him in my journal saying how cute he was. (in fourth grade, guys aren't hot to you--they're "cute".) He was also in the Baby Sitters Club movie, and when I got it I was swearing I was in love with him. His most recent project was the TV show Promised Land. My dad has a video about teen abstinence, and he narrates it. So, yay for cute Christian boys! [snort]

Jake Richardson, September 1996 to mid 1997

ABC used to have a Saturday morning series based on the Judy Blume book Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing. Well, Jake played Peter on Fudge, that show. My Saturday mornings in fifth grade were spent watching him on TV and dreaming about him. The bonus for liking him was that he was a year older than me, which I was giddy with joy about. I lost intrest in him all of a sudden. The last I heard of him he was in a Richie Rich movie, and let's just say that time did him no justice. He isn't very attractive anymore.

Mark McGrath, July 1997 to present

what can I say? From the first time I saw the video for "Fly" I had a mad crush on Mr. McGrath. I don't know what it was about him, but I guess I just thought he was mad sexy. I still do. He's going to be one of those guys who will be hot when he's fifty.

Howie Dorough, October 1997 to May 2001?

This is the one of the longest crushes, and it was the second time the guy wasn't an actor or under eighteen. I can almost remember the first time I laid eyes on the guy. I was watching the Nickelodeon Big Help special, and Sister Hazel (they had a cool song out in '97 that I loved, "All For You") was going to preform, so I was waiting for them when Larisa Oleynik, the host, announces the Backstreet Boys. I was like, "Who the heck are they?!" When they came out, I was instantly into Nick (what can I say, that was during the time that I liked lots and lots of blondes), thought Brian was cute, but when I saw Howie... I was instantly attracted. He had longish hair (swoon), pretty eyes, and there was something so appealing to him. That one preformance got me into the guys and made me obsessed with Howie. Lord have mercy, three years later I'm having insane fantasies about him that I won't go into detail with... and he was the first guy I ever called sexy. I'm not as attracted to him as I once was, but he still has a part of my heart. Yes, that's cheesy as hell. But it's true.

Leonardo DiCaprio, October 1997 to mid 1998

I was ashamed of this one; very ashamed. Like thousands of other girls, when Titanic came out I was a Leo obsessor. I don't remember what I saw in him. I think it was the hair. I'll give Mr. DiCaprio his props, though: he was awesome in Catch Me if You Can.

JC Chasez, March 1998 to December 1998, March 2001 to present

JC was the first guy in *NSYNC that I liked. When I saw him in "I Want You Back", I was entranced by his blue eyes and I thought he was just plain hot. Then I saw the Disney concert and I got another crush on one of his other bandmates...

Lance Bass, July 1998 to January 1999, August 1999 to present

I don't know what got me to liking Lance. I just did. He was "the other blonde" and he was cute. Besides, at the time Justin was only the nappy-haired blonde (ha!) and I thought Lance looked better. Around January of '99, I'd lost my interest in him. But it was rekindled in August of '99, thanks to a friend. I miss pre-nose job Lance, though. He was geekily hot.

Chris Kirkpatrick, January 1999 to present

Believe it or not, I wasn't into Chris at first. I thought he was weird. My first *NSYNC crush was on JC. From there I graduated to Lance appreciation, and when I first started liking Chris I was still into Lance. I'd gotten Teen People's first anniversary issue with *NSYNC on the cover. Chris had the dreads out, and when I saw his pictures I thought, Wow, he has great hair. Then, God, he has gorgeous eyes. By the time the video for "I Drive Myself Crazy" rolled around he was my favorite and has remained that way since. And the hair, I liked it. When he cut it, I was in mourning, but in denial about it. (that is a long story)

Heath Ledger, April 1999 to present

Heath Ledger, God bless him. When I saw 10 Things I Hate About You, I got hooked on him. After the movie, while my friend Katie was raving over Cameron (Joseph Gordon Levitt), I couldn't shut up about Heath. I love the accent. Love. Watching him in Brokeback Mountain with Jake Gyllenhaal with be most interesting...

Tyrese, May 1999 to ?

I don't know what made me start to like Ty, but whatever it was, I was addicted. I think I was looking at the case of his CD when I thought he didn't look half-bad. The next thing I knew, I was watching Jams Countdown just to see him. He was the first black guy celeb I'd had a serious crush on, but I just lost interest in him. [shrugs]

Adrian Grenier, August 1999 to ?

I liked Adrian even before I saw Drive Me Crazy. I saw him in the video for "(You Drive Me) Crazy", and I thought he was hot. The movie just insured it. I love his eyes. And now he's making a comeback on Entorague, a show I cannot see as I have no HBO, woe.

Trevor Guthrie, August 2000 to April 2001

I was hot for soulDecision's "Faded", but I didn't expect to be hot for their frontman. When I first saw Trevor's picture on the single to the CD, I was in insta-lust. I once referred to him as my "Canadian love god". soulDecision would've been huge if they'd come out now, what with the whole 80s revival thing going on--they sounded a little bit new-wave. I liked No One Does it Better.

Brian McFayden, November 2000 to ?

who didn't think Brian was a cutie? I can't remember the first time I saw him, but when I did, I just thought he was really hot. I miss him on MTV.

Ben Affleck, January 2001 to January 2003

when Armageddon came out, I wondered why the heck my friend Katie drooled over Ben. But when I finally saw the movie a few years later (like, oh 2001) I began to get why she liked him. He was hot. And he was beyond sweet in interviews. Thank God the "Bennifer" (Part Un) is over. However, post J.Lo, Ben seems kind of tainted now.

Wade Robson, May/June 2001 to mid 2002

I first saw a picture of Wade in Teen People and I thought, "Wow, he's FINE." But it wasn't until the Making the Video for "Pop" that I--and other *NSYNC fans--were semiformally introduced to him. I liked him for quite awhile but then I lost interest after he kind of disappeared.

Tobey Maguire, May 2002 to present

I'd heard about Tobey prior to this May. But when I saw him in Spider-Man with that unitard accentuating that lovely butt of his, I was hooked. He's just gorgeous, in that dorky boy kind of way. I mean, not that he's DORKY, per se, but he looks like the kind of guy girls would have made fun of in school, but the kind of guy I would have had a MAD crush on.

Clay Aiken, February 2003 to present

When I was watching the auditions for the second season of American Idol, this one guy auditioned in Atlanta. He was tall and kinda dorky looking, with red hair and glasses. I just looked at him, thinking, Okay, this guy's gonna suck. But he's just a little cute. Then he sang "Always and Forever", and I instantly regretted my thoughts. I didn't think too much about him 'til a classmate of mine, Sara, started gushing about this "dorky boy who has a voice that brings me to tears." And as it turns out, the geeky boy she spoke of and the redhead from the Atlanta auditions were the same guy--Clay Aiken. I crushed on him for awhile, but it was his Wild Card performance of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and later "Somewhere Out There" that got me.

John Cusack, May 2003 to present

Identity was the first R-rated movie I saw in the theaters when I was of age, and throughout the whole course of the movie, I was totally smitten by John Cusack--so much so that I noticed his bottom teeth were crooked, a trait I strangely found attractive. And yes, people, Say Anything... is the definative Cusack movie. If you can't watch it without falling in love with Lloyd Dobler, your heart is made of stone.

Jake Epstein, June 2003 to present

I got addicted to watching Degrassi: The Next Generation in the summer of '03, and my favorite male character became Craig Manning. Jake Epstein does an excellent job of potraying Craig, and he's the only guy on the show who I have no problem fawning over, even though everyone loves him. Granted, I HAAAAATE what they did to Craig in season three, but I still have quite a crush on Jake. Mmm.

Topher Grace, February 2004 to present

I'm not fond of Ashton Kutcher. Something about him just grates my last damn nerve. If you want to give me my pick of the That 70s Show guys, I'd choose Topher Grace. He's cool because of his untraditional nickname (Topher is short for Christopher, don'tcha know), and because he's not the "heartthrob", though he has his little legions of fans. I got hooked after seeing him as snarky Pete in Win a Date With Tad Hamilton. Bag MY groceries any day, Topher.

Adam Brody, February 2004 to present

Originally, I vowed not to watch The O.C. because it was incredibly easy for me to mock it, and I thought it was cheesier than Velveeta. Then I ended up watching the episode where Seth and Summer have sex, and it was all over because of Adam Brody. He's so geeky!hot. Mmm, mmm, good.

Jake Gyllenhaal, May 2004 to present

I first saw Jake in October Sky sometime in 1999. I remember watching the movie the entire time and thinking, "That main guy, Homer, he's gorgeous!" So years pass, and every now and then some random teen magazine would feature some small article about Jake and I'd overlook it, and think, Hey, that guy's hot. So then The Day After Tomorrow comes out and I remember he was the guy in October Sky, and I became all enamoured because of how BLUE his eyes are and junk. I think he's a pretty cool guy, but as far as dating Kirsten Dunst? No. Just no.

Ian Thorpe, August 2004 to present

I was glued to the TV during the '04 Olympics, specifically during the swimming events. It was during this time that I became quite addicted to Ian Thorpe, who is one of Australia's best-known swimmers and was, at the time, the main rival to American swimmer Michael Phelps. I also spent a lot of the time during the Olympics reading Ian/Michael (or Thorpedo/Speedo) slash at LiveJournal communities, but I digress.

Jon Foster, September 2004 to present

Jon is the brother of Ben Foster, who was Tucker on Flash Forward (one of my favorite TV shows ever). He looks enough like his brother that you know they're related, and that's perfect. Jon was on Life As We Know It (playing a character named Ben, who was having an affair with his teacher), a series that ABC stuck on Thursday nights in the time slot directly after The O.C., and later they put it up against The O.C. LAWKI got cancelled because of this stupid move. But my love for Jon still goes on. I mean, look at the boy. He's gorgeous.

Josh Holloway, October 2004 to present

Ahh, Lost--otherwise known as the Show That Ate My Brain. See, I wasn't one of the girls who tuned in because of the Dominic Monaghan factor (I've never even seen any of the LOTR movies all the way through); I was just interested in the story. So I watch, and am amazed at the eye candy on that island (helloooooo Naveen Andrews!). And then there's Sawyer, who I should hate on principal alone. He's obnoxious. He's an asshole. He's an asshole to hot Sayid (the aforementioned Naveen Andrews). But then, as the episodes progressed, something happened. I just couldn't hate the character. No, I actually kinda liked him. By the time "Confidence Man" rolled around, it was all over. Most of the swaying has to do with the fact that Mr. Holloway is quite charming offscreen, but most of it has to do with the fact that he rocks the casbah on the show.
