Chapter Fifteen (CONT.)
Hello?

No answer.

Hello??

Whos this?

Morgan, who had still been pressed against Apolo, pulled away.  I may just ask you the same question.

Well, this is Sarah, his girlfriend.  And you are?

She stared at Apolo, whose shocked expression mirrored her own.  Both looked at each other in terror, then back at the phone.  This isumm

Wait a second.  You sound awfully familiarOh my god, dont tell me, youre that little slutty fuck friend of his, arent you?

Sarah, were over.  Youre the one who broke up with me last night at the party.  So dont go blaming this on other people besides yourself, said Apolo, who had pulled the phone out of Morgans grasp.

Listen, I never said we were over.  But, I guess we are now.  And you know what else?  I guess the press is going to find out about some torrid little love affair.  Cant you just see it now?
Apolo Ohno: Americas Golden Boy Breaks Girlfriends Heart To Bang Friend.

You wouldnt dare, he growled.

Oh really?  Well youll just have to wait and see then, wont you?

Morgan couldnt take another minute of this.  She stared at the angry, pained look across Apolos face.  He had worked too hard to throw away all his dreams in one measly instant.  She refused to let some small-time bitch ruin it for him.

Hi, Sarah, this is Morgan, she greeted, snatching the phone out of Apolos hand.  Im the one you want, not Apolo.  He didnt do anything wrong.  Last night, I came over and seduced him.  So if youre going to slander anyone, it should be me.

Alright, fine.  You want to save Apolos ass, you do that.  But Im letting you know right now, that once you leave Seattle, which I know you will, Im not stupid, say goodbye to your reputation.  Youre never coming back again, you hear me, skank.

Loud and clear.  Have a nice morning.  And with that, Morgan slammed the phone down on the counter.  She stared down at her bare feet, and ran the words over in her head once more.  She smiled.  No regrets whatsoever.

Hey, Apolo said softly, tilting her chin upwards.  He shook his head incredulously.  Morg, youhowwhyd you do it?

Because, she replied, stroking his face with her hands, you need your reputation more than I do.  Hell if I care if my name gets thrown around.  I know my place, and Im happy with who I am.  You, on the other hand, need a little more time finding yourself, especially being in the limelight.

I dont understand.  Just tell me, why are you risking it all for me?  I dont deserve it in the least.  Nor do I care what others think of me.  Youre the only one I care about.

Well, people do stupid things when theyre in love.

Apolo sighed and rested his forehead on hers.
It would possibly be the last time he would do that she thought, soaking in the soft touch of his skin on hers.  But I won't tell him.  Not quite yet.
