Monty Python and the Holy Grail (DVD) Recommend - I've heard just about everyone talk about this movie and I finally got to see it for myself. It was pretty good for an older movie, though not as funny as most had said.
The Longest Yard (DVD) Average - Seems as though they tried to mix funny with dramatic moments which doesnt work too well in this movie. It is worth seeing if you like Adam Sandler as I do. But overall, just sort of ordinary with a few funny scenes and a few out of place dramatic scenes.
The Skeleton Key (DVD) Recommend - Starring Kate Hudson, this movie wasn't what I thought it was going to be. It actually suprised me in a good way, go out and see it if you have the time.
Saw 2 (THR) Recommend - My girlfriend, her friend, and I went and saw this movie on Halloween night. It was really good. A lot gorier than the first. I really didnt think they would be able to improve on the first movie, but they did. Saw 3 coming soon?...Perhaps.
Hearts in Atlantis (DVD) Recommend+ - Excellent movie. I've never seen the book so I dont know how it compares. I really like Anthony Hopkins in roles like this though. The only downside of this movie that I saw was that it could have been longer.
Inside Man (THR) Recommend+ - Great movie. Very well done. Totally different from what I expected it to be. A lot of different angles in this movie. Not just a bank robery movie as you might expect. Very good plot and good acting.
The Hills Have Eyes (THR) Average - This movie is like the movie Wrong Turn, except its radiation that has made the hillbillies grotesque instead of in-breeding. Very very gory. I would have given it a higher rating, but it just wasn't that spectacular and was somewhat predictable.
Wallace and Gromit in the Case of the Were-Rabbit (DVD) Recommend - If you're a fan of the tv show as I am, you'll love this movie. Its Wallace and Gromit on a grander scale. One of those animated movies that is great for the whole family. Same kind of animation as Chicken Run.
Waiting...(DVD) Highly Recommend - Very funny comedy that I heard nothing about when it was in theaters, rented it, and loved it. Probaby what really goes on in restuarants by the people who make our food.
40 Year Old Virgin (DVD) Highly Recommend - Great new comedy. Really fresh material. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Good supporting cast.
War of the Worlds (DVD) Recommend - Story was rather good. Special affects were well done and not overly used. The only downside I saw was that parts of the story weren't fully told such as where the aliens came from, how they put their "equipment" in the ground and what they wanted.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith (DVD) Recommend+ - Good overall movie. Brad Pitt has grown on me over the years since I saw him in The Mexican. Great action, good acting, quite humorous as well. Sort of reminded me of a newer version of the movie "War of the Roses".
(10/6/06) School For Scoundrels (THR) Recommend+ (8) - Jon Heder's back. Thats right, Mr. Napoleon Dynamite is in another movie. This one is far better than The Benchwarmers though. Billy Bob has seem to found a niche playing the 'Bad Santa' of every movie he's in now. Some subtle humor in this flick as well. In some ways, yes, your typical formula comedy, but it has a lot extra.
(10/7/06) Mystery Men (DVD) Average (5) - Spoof of superhero movies, sort of. Lots of talent in this flick, but they are not used to the best of their abilities. Movie falls into the Ben Stiller formula-comedy category. Overall though, it does deliver some laughs, and Janeane Garofalo is a great addition to the film.
(10/10/06) Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (THR) Average (5) - Very gory. Fits well into the 'Wrong Turn', 'The Hills Have Eyes' mold. Nothing original though. My girlfriend, who loves these types of movies wasnt that impressed either.
(10/15/06) Thank You For Smoking (DVD) Recommend (7) - Pretty good movie about a lobbyist who works for big tobacco and how that affects his personal life. I recommend this movie for smokers and non-smokers alike. |
