Final Writing Assignment
DUE Monday, June 7
You will be doing a project that incorporates all aspects of 5th grade writing standards to show that you have improved on our language, grammar, mechanics and usage.

Imagine a character: it could be you (written in the first-person) or someone else
(3rd person).  That character travels to a place (setting) and discovers a magical lamp with a genie inside that gives three wishes to that character.

        Your story
must follow these guidelines:
1st paragraph should introduce the character by using DESCRIPTIVE writing.  The character must have a reason for traveling - the goal does not have to be the lamp.  This should be mainly narrative text.
Middle - 2nd paragraph - The character arrives at the destination (DESCRIBE IT!) and begins the journey.  At some point, the lamp is found.  The genie and the character MUST have a dialogue.  You should have a balance of dialogue and narration through the middle.
Ending - Do not end after the wishes were made!!!!  Does the character resolve his/her reason for traveling?  What happens to the lamp and genie?  Narrate this part and come up with a logical end to your story.
Do's and Don'ts:
Do use a wide variety of words for speaker tags.
Do place the speaker tags in different places of your sentences.
Don't over use THEN, AND, BECAUSE or other blah words.
Do mix up your prepositional phrases - let them start your sentences.
Do use Writer's Craft choices like personification, simile, exaggeration, etc...

HAVE FUN and follow the writing process!
