She Took Every Step With Me
I was walking with my mom when I dropped my stuffed animal and turned around. A girl who seemed to be in her teenage years picked it up and handed it to me, and I smiled. My mom said, Dont forget to say thank you. I nodded. I thanked the girl and continued walking again. My mom taught me my manners and taught me to always be polite. Just as she taught me to say excuse me as I pushed through people, my mom told me to say bless you when people sneezed. Little by little I learned to be more polite. As I grew older, my mom continued to teach me other important things as well. Through each stage of my life, my mom helped me to mature and grow.
My mom has a petite-sized body and a warm smile that brightens the day of everyone around her. She has dark brown hair with light brown highlights in it. My mom is always understanding of others, forgiving others no matter what wrong they do her. She works many long hours, five days a week. My mom is a very hardworking individual who believes in honesty and integrity. Although she is such a busy person, she never forgets to leave time for me.
When my close friends younger sister passed away, I was devastated. I was only in the seventh grade and being only thirteen years old; death seemed to be far from my mind. This sudden tragedy left me clueless, I did not know how to feel or what to say. Through this tough time, my mom was constantly there for me, encouraging me, and teaching me how to be there for my friend. Listen to her if she needs an open ear. Sometimes it is better to quietly listen than give advice that you are unsure of. I followed through with what my mom told me and I was able to comfort my friend and be there for her. As time progressed, my mom continued to assist me with new situations and gave me her advice on what she would do, while always leaving an opening for my thoughts.
Before I knew it, I was a junior in high school. I had essays, papers, projects, and labs galore. I felt like the work was never-ending. I had an upcoming SAT, AP test, and regents at the end of the year. I knew that I could not afford to mess up this year and that I needed to concentrate on my schoolwork. Sacrificing a lot of time to go out with friends, I remained at home and studied. I wanted to do well in school, excel above others, and make my mom proud. Whenever I would stay up late to do my homework or study, my mom would come in every now and then to check up on me. Whether it was just a simple How are things going? or Come take a short break and have some fruit, she would always show her support of me. Even though she knew that she would have to get up at 5 AM in the morning, several times my mom would stay up into the late night so that when I finished my work I would not be up alone. My mom works many longer hours than necessary so that she can provide me with the best life possible. Watching my mom working so diligently for my benefit convinced me to strive to do my hardest in everything that I do.
Ever since I was little, I looked up to my mom. I loved to follow her around and imitate her. She is beautiful, intelligent, and generous. I appreciate having her in my life and look up to her as my role model. I continue to become like her, except to be the best person that I can possibly be.
