Should They Be Allowed?
Should homosexuals be allowed to marry? Although many argue that homosexuals are entitled to the right of marriage like any other couple, many also do not support such an idea. Some claim that if the couple loves each other, why keep them from marrying? Doesnt everyone have an equal right to marry and spend the rest of her life with her lover? However, the issue delves deeper. Some tolerate civil unions and not marriages, while others support neither. But why should homosexuals be kept from marrying?
In a religious aspect, homosexuality is not taken lightly. People who are religious do not live to persecute or harm homosexuals in any way. However, the idea of being gay does not fit well with many religions. There are always those select churches, mosques, temples, and so on, which are very strict and will not allow homosexuals to attend; however, many churches are not so inconsiderate and kindly accept everyone and anyone. The big reason that religions do not feel that homosexuality is right or okay is because God created man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman. People who are very religious are not against the homosexual people, but are against the homosexuality. However, although many do not agree with people being homosexuals, they also do not think that two people who would like to marry should be kept from being able to. Marriage is seen as a God-given right to people who are religious, and what says that anyone could take that away from someone? Although some believe that religion should be kept separate from law that does not change the fact that many in this country are religious and religion plays a big role in peoples lives.
What about furthering the population? A man and a woman can reproduce a child to contribute to the human species, but a homosexual couple cannot. However if it is the issue of whether or not one can bare a child, the argument is not very valid. People who are sterile are allowed to marry and they do not bare children either. Homosexuals and sterile persons both cannot have children Other claim that homosexuality goes against nature and how things have always been. People have always been against homosexuality. However, homosexuality is not spreading out of nowhere; it is more like people coming out and telling their secret. Just because things have always been a certain way does not necessarily mean that it is the best way for things to be. Homosexuals are like any other, and wish to just be accepted and allowed to live their lives normally, without needing to be discriminated against or put down.
Homosexuals are not to be put down or looked down upon. They are not looking for any special treatment or privilege. They simply wish that people not try to take away their rights, as citizens, or even as humans. According to the Bill of Rights, everyone is entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. So why should homosexuals be excluded from such a right in any way? Whether it was by choice or how they have always been, homosexuals do not wish to harm or bother anyone with their existence or sexual preference. All that they wish is to be left alone and allowed to live their life just like anyone else is allowed.
