THE DW REPORT2008 Boogity, Boogity, Boogity boys. Well I got this new fancy computer now and the spell checker doesn’t reck-on Boogity as a word! Can you believe it? Oh I miss the good ole days, like this weekend before the race, when I was presented with the 1988 Mountain Dew Monte Carlo that I was 4 - 0 at Bristol with! Undefeated that is. Yea, that’s when men were men and cars were actually stock cars! Oh well I guess all good things come to an end, and then your left commenting on a bullshit fantasy league tracking bullshit modified cars! So before I make my projections of the FNL 2008 race teams, let me once again review the state of NASCAR. COT: Or should I say the bullshit car of today that we are stuck with! If the goal of this new car was to make the financially strapped teams be more competitive, they have failed! Big money with more resources will always win. It does look like the big money teams of Roush, RCR, and JGR have caught up to Hendricks. The only thing good that has come out of this is? The cars are heavy and harder to drive than the previous cars. That is; drivers mean more than they did in the past. However, the race teams will eventually make the car handle and we will be right back to where we started from. TOYOTA: If I reck-on correctly, a wise man said last year Toyota would struggle because they didn’t sign with a tested team. Well look what happened; Gibbs Racing. I am not the kind of guy that says “ I told you so “ , but I can’t help myself. That’s why I am writing this and your not. You guys don’t know nothing ‘bout racin’! Toyota will be as good as everybody else by the end of this year! Thanks JGR! OPEN WHEEL DRIVERS: Well the experiment continues. The big money has drawn open wheelers to the league. I think it is still to early to say one of these guys will have a champions impact. I also think it is too early to say that one of these guys can’t be a champion some day. It really comes down to this. Open wheelers rely on brakes, acceleration, and great handling. Nascar drivers feather the throttle of a sliding car around a track at 190 mph. As we all can see Juan Pablo Montoya is a bull in a china shop. Even a year into the league! My gut feeling is: wait until Danica Patrick enters Sprint Cup before you draft an open wheeler. RACERS CHANGING TEAMS: This is the year! DW feels it coming! Racers who have switched teams are gonna be a good thing! It happens so rarely. TERN-A-MANIA: Its obvious this owner intends to be a contender every year. I believe this is the team to beat. I don’t think it is as dominating as last years Bongo Fury squad or Shoompaq’s record setting 28-8 team, but definitely the cream of this 2008 crop! Edwards, Hamlin, Newman, all studs. All probably make the chase. Yeley switched to a new team and Waltrip has great commercials! Another scary stat is; his drivers continue to win the races like they did in 2007! MR. RACING: This team owner wants to win bad! I mean, did he sell his soul to the devil or what. That’s right he picked JEFF GORDON number 1 overall in the 2008 draft! Jeff and Jeff will once again make the chase. It also looks like Kahne is back! As far as Juan Pablo, Robby Gordon and Blaney go; JOKER, JOKER, JOKER! There’s three wild cards for ya! It is an interesting combination of racers. Obviously give all the road coarses to this team. The question will be, will the Jokers wild be able to stay clean throughout the season. ShoomDELL Racing: “ Groooviinnnnn on a Sunday afterrrr noooonn “ Bowyer is for real and Biffle is back.! With Kenseth that makes 3 guys looking at the chase! Riggs switched teams. Sorenson is in a contract year. Menard is ready to be a top 20 driver. That all adds up to ShoomDELL racing three wide on the last lap with TERN-A-MANIA and MR. RACING! Klynch Motorsports: This is DW’s dark horse! This team has a real cast of characters that could make it 4 wide down the final stretch! I assume, at this point, Stewart and Busch have put everybody’s mind at ease. Their cars are good, will be good, this year. Will they be able to finish? Will they burn up before the race is over? Is Toyota still a year away? This is probably the real question for this teams success in 2008. As far as Vickers, Gilliand, Labonte go; JOKER, JOKER, JOKER! I see them all better and having more impact. Finally did Klynch draft Mark Martin one round to early? These are the reasons why DW just can’t put his finger on this teams finish. Bongo Fury: Oh how the mighty have fallen. Its not gonna be so easy this year! I so much think your first pick of Dale Jr. 5th overall was right on ! After that it’s a car accident! Everything is in slow motion! Kvapil gets wrecked by Ragan who collects Mayfield and Truex Jr. in to a DNF fest! Blown Heads Racing: I know this team made a slow start last year and still made the championship, but I just don’t see the same level of talent. Obviously Johnson and Harvick will be good. Hornish is an interesting pick. But right now Mcmurray and Mears are gonna lose their rides. Those guys just keep getting worse. They both drive for the top two premiere organizations and they just keep getting worse. I think with all the new young drivers entering NASCAR, these guys may be out of their cars before the end of the year. Finally, I think I know how Ruetiman got his Domino’s ride. See he was a delivery boy first, but he could never make his deliveries before the 30 minute deadline! Domino’s had to give away all his pizzas! So they decided it was cheaper to have him run last in all his cup races! DW is out!
