Tobias Eichenauer succumbs after long illness
Due to paralysis-Funeral services arranged for Tuesday PM at 3
O'clock at Hope Evangelical- Burial to be made in Buck Cemetery.
Tobias Eichenauer, native of Germany, who has been a resident of
Hopewell Township for the past 63 years passed away Tuesday morning
after a lingering illness due to paralysis.
Last Easter Sunday, April 12th, Mr. Eichenauer suffered his first
stroke of paralysis and his health slowly gave way. On March 17,
1937, he suffered another stroke from which he never rallied and grew
weaker rapidly.
The deceased was born in Hesse Cassel, Germany December 30, 1850, and
at the time of his death he had reached the age of 86 years and three
months.
He came to the United States at the age of 16 years and often told
his children of his trip on the ocean that lasted six weeks.
On February 24, 1874 he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth
Smith and on February 24, 1924 the couple celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary.
On June 6, 1929, Mrs. Eichenauer passed away. Ten children blessed
this union, three died in infancy, and one son Daniel was killed in
1934.
Surviving are five sons Frank of Hopewell Township; William of
Celina; Roy, Benjamin and Richard of Hopewell Township; one daughter,
Mrs. TJ Bice of Hopewell Township; 21 grandchildren; 16 great
grandchildren; three brothers, Adam and Justus Eichenauer of Celina
and John Eichenauer of Germany, two sisters, Mrs. William Weir of
Celina and Margaret in Germany.
The deceased was a member of Hope Evangelical Church. Funeral
services will be conducted by Rev. EO Habeggar at the home at 2:30
o'clock p.m. Thursday and Hope Evangelical Church in Hopewell
Township at 3 o'clock. Burial will be made in Buck Cemetery

I assume this ran in the local Celina paper, as it was cut out by a family member and given to me many years later. This is my great great grandfather.
