John Rogers

A clergyman of the church, a minister of St. Paul's Cathedral in
London England, was burned at the stake February 14, 1554. He was the
first martyr during Queen Mary's reign. His grandson was Thomas
Rogers. The records of St. Paul's Cathedral verify the accounts of
John Rogers and his grave is still maintained to this day.

Thomas Rogers

Whose family had fled England to escape religious persecution was, in
1620, in Leyden (Holland). He sailed from there, with one son,
Joseph, and others from the church, for a new life in America. He
left the rest of his family, including a son William (born circa
1600) behind. Thomas, and son Joseph, landed at Plymouth from the
Mayflower on Dec.11 (old calendar) 1620. Thomas, apparently, died
within six months of landing in the new world. His son, Joseph,
married and had a family and became a recorded member of the colony
at Plymouth.

William Rogers

The son left behind in 1620, set sail at the age of 35, in June of
1635, for Virginia in the baroque "Philip", (Richard Morgan,
master). He was later of Weatherfield Conn., Stamford Conn.,
Southampton L.I. and Huntington L.I. He died (ca) 1650 and his wife
died (ca) 1664. They had five sons and two daughters. Their sixth
child a son, was named Noah.

Noah Rogers

Was born 1646 at Huntington L.I. He moved to Branford Conn. In 1669
and was the original settler in Branford of our line. He married
Elizabeth Taintor in 1673. They had seven children, the first born
was a son named John.

John Rogers

Born 1677, married Lydia Fresbee in 1713. She died in 1750 and John
died in 1764. They had nine children, the eighth was a son named
Samuel.

Samuel Rogers

Born 1729, was afterwards called Deacon Samuel, married Hannah
Harrison and they had seven children. The first two were named
Samuel, the first of these died in infancy.

Samuel Rogers Jr.

Was born in Branford Conn. In 1760. In 1777 he served as a private
in Col. Roger Eno's Battalion, Capt. James Peck's Company, in the
state of Connecticut, for eleven months and eleven days. He was
taken sick with measles, declared unfit for duty, and sent home in a
severe snow storm. In later years he was a U.S. pensioner. At the
age of 28 he married Jerusha Hubbard on Feb. 19, 1789. They moved
from Branford Conn. To Canaan, Wayne County, Penn. Jerusha died May
16, 1833 and Samuel died Mar. 25, 1836. They are both buried at the
old Meeting House at Canaan. Their tombstone is made from an
ordinary neighborhood stone and is marked "SR-JR". Samuel and
Jerusha had eight children. The oldest, a son, was named Wyllys.
They had two other sons named Justus (1.2) and Frederick (1.3).

Wyllys Rogers

Was born Nov.18, 1790 in Branford Conn. On May 30, 1811 he married
Martha Bradley Hoadley, widow of Demmyngs Hoadley who died, in India,
six months after his marriage. The children of Wyllys and Martha
were William, Minor, Major Bradley, James H., Anson, George
Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Caroline who died in infancy.
Martha died Mar. 27, 1854 and Wyllys died Oct. 26, 1859.

Minor Rogers

Was born Sept. (ca) 1,1833. He married Elizabeth Gordon Fretz
(Fratts) July 21, (ca) 1833 in the township of Plumstead, Bucks
County, Penn. Elizabeth was born Jan. 23, 1814. Their children were
George M., Wm. Wallace, Charles H., Wesley H., Harriet E., H. Ellen
and twin girls Sarah Ida and Mary L. Minor died Jan. 6, 1895 (3.48)

William Wallace Rogers

William Wallace was the son of Minor P. Rogers. He was born November
1832 and died December 1890. Wm. Wallace was mustered into the US
Army Calvary of the Potomac on July 23, 1861 and achieved the rank of
Captain. Capt. Rogers served in as the honor guard for President
Lincolns inauguration and funeral. W.W. served through many of the
great Civil War battles and was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg.
Many of the handwritten letters Capt. Rogers sent home to family are
still in our possession as well, his field and dress swords are
cherished by the family to this day.

Sarah Ida Rogers

Born Jan. 31, 1854. Married George Giberson Harley who was born July
14, 1856. Their children were Elizabeth Rogers, Halvor Larson,
Rebecca Hilliard, Harry Minor and Wm. Wallace. Sarah died Nov.4,
1931 and George died Apr. 26, 1939 and are both buried in Hammonton
N.J.

Halvor Larson Harley

Was born July 18, 1882 in Laurelton N.J. He married Alice Robison
Mar. 28, 1910. They had two children, Robison Dooling and Elizabeth
Rogers. Halvor L. Harley died Mar.16, 1957 and is buried with Alice
at Laurel memorial Cemetery, Pamona N.J.

Harry Minor Harley

Born Oct.28, 1888 in Williamstown N.J. After an eight year marriage
to Helen Marie Derby, Harry Minor divorced and married Sarah Olive
Margaret Swayze Aug. 22, 1922 in Fort Erie, Ontario. Harry
and "Marge" or Olive, had four children. Rogers Swayze, Blake Minor,
Barbara Ann and Harry George. Harry Minor died Sept.25,1962
and "Marge" died June 10, 1987. Both are buried in the Swayze family
plot in the Victoria Lawn Cemetery at St. Catharines, Ontario.
