Goss family come to Portage Co. Ohio From "History of Portage County" 1885 ************************************** John Goss, a brother's son of Ebenezer, came here from the Wyoming Valley (Luzerne Co.) Pa., one of the Connecticut settlers of the Wyoming, and settled on the westside of Lot 77. He was a great hunter, and died in 1829. ************************************** Springfield township, embracing Randolph, Suffield, Tallmadge, Portage and Coventry, was organized the first Monday in April, 1808. The following named persons from what is known as Randolph voted at this election: Timothy Culver, Ebenezer Cutler, Oliver C. Dickerson, David Goss, Ebenezer Goss, John Goss, Joseph Harris, Bela Hubbard, Eliakim Merriman, Jeremiah Sabin, John Sabin, Abel Sabin, Jehiel Savage, William Thorton, Arad Upson and Calvin Ward. Sixteen out of thirty-four voters lived in Randolph. ************************************** GOSS, John in Ohio (Portage County History) (pg. 237) (speaking of the earliest settlers of Randolph Twp.) "In November, 1804, Ebenezer Goss....from Plymouth..came in." "During this same year (1805 this time)...John Goss located in the township." (pg. 278) John Goss mentioned as a private in the War of 1812. (pg. 322) John Goss mentioned in list of voters in Randolph on June 8, 1808. (pg. 512) "June 13, of the same year (1804), Ebenezer Goss left Plymouth, Conn., and came by way of Pittsburgh to Mahoning County, arriving at Canfield July 29, having been forty-six days on the road. From there he went to Atwater, and in November came to Randolph. He brought a wife and four children, and when he arrived had only $1 in money." "October 23 (1805), John Goss, from Connecticut, arrived with his family.... (to Randolph)." (pg. 514) (speaking of an election in Randolph on January 12, 1811) "Be it remembered that on the 12th day of January, A. D. 1811, the electors of Randolph Township assembled agreeable to public notice for the purpose of electing township officers. John Goss was chosen Chairman of said meeting..."
