Niday born August 25, 1825 in Giles Co. Va. married April 22, 1855 Eleanor R. Porter born here August 3, 1834, daughter of Thomas J. and Ellen (DeWitt) Porter who settled here in 1810. Thomas born 1807 and died June 9, 1875. Stephen born 1841, married Elizabeth Boggs February 6, 1867. She was born here November 8, 1847, daughter of James and Mary (Williams) Boggs, here in 1818. Stephen and Elizabeth had 6 children. NEAL, John Thomas - Born in this county April 25, 1857, son of Henry and Mary (Mossbarger) Neal. He married E. Ida Allison born September 30, 1858 in Wapello Co., Iowa, daughter of David and Mary (William) Allison NEAL, Jacob Y.- Born march 30, 1853 in this county, son of Thomas and Belinda (Allison) Neal. He married Melissa Clark born December 25, 1853 in this county, daughter of John and Nancy (Halley) Clark. NOTTER, John J. - Born September, 1839 in Lawrence Co., Ohio, son of Francis and Mary (Rich) Notter who settled here in 1868. John married Nancy Bartley, daughter of Thomas and Eliza (Knox) Bartley who came here in 1847. John and Nancy had 5 children NULL, W.D. - Born August 27, 1847 in this county, son of William and Rebecca (Neal) Null. William was born April 21, 1813 and Rebecca born October 27, 1818. NORTHUP, Henry C. - Born in this county August 4, 1842, son of George V. and Hannah (Gilbert) Northup who were here in 1806. Henry married Elizabeth Gillingham October 24, 1866. She was born october 14, 1848. NEAL, Anderson - Born here October 11, 1821, son of Walter and Deborah (Arnott) Neal who came to this county in 1820. On December 24, 1840 Anderson married Levina Allison, daughter of John and Rebecca (Carter) Allison who came to this county in 1802. Anderson and Levina had: Susan 1841, Robert D. 1844, Rebecca 1846, John 1849, and Harriet 1855 died young. Son Robert D. married January 30, 1876 Eliza McCormick daughter of James and Margaret (Waddell) McCormick. Hibbard born September 17, 1844, in Lisbon, N.H., daughter of Moses and Jane (Sutherland) Hibbard. NEWTON, Abraham - Born January 7, 1828 in Creech, St. Michael, Somersetshire, England, son of Thomas Webber and Martha (Boyer) Newton. Abraham married February 6, 1853, in England, Eliza Harris, daughter of John and Mary (Boyer) Harris. Abraham a soldier in Civil War. NASH, William - Born July 13, 1817, in Mass., son of Simeon and Amy Nash. Wm. came to Gallia County in 1838. NEWSOM, J.L. - Born here in 1810, son of Lewis and Gabrielle (Menager) Newsom, married in Gallipolis in 1833, Elizabeth M. Gibbs born in 1815 in Middleton, Conn. They had: Lewis born 1834 (lived Minn.).Edward born 1836, Parnell G. born 1839 (lived Wisc.), Mary born 1840 (lived Mo.), Rosina born 1842, Fred born 1844 (live Oreg), Charles born 1846, Allen M. born 1849 (lived Wisc), Logan born 1851, William born 1853 (live Oreg), and Elmer born 1856 (lived Menominee, Wisc.). Elizabeth Gibbs was the daughter of Ashley and Parnell (Roberts) Gibbs who came here 1821. MOONEY, Mathew - Born here September 5, 1825, son of John and Elizabeth (Norman) Mooney. He married March 14, 1848, Susan Waugh, born here November 14, 1830, daughter of John T. and Anna (Sloan) Waugh, who settled here in this county 1800. Mathew and Susan had: Elizabeth, Missouri, Mary, John, Lora, Thomas, Emily, James, Charles, Walter, Etta and Clarence. Mathew had brother J.W. in Mexican War. John T., the son of Mathew and Susan married Mary R.Wetherholt born June 4, 1856, daughter of Jacob and Sarah (McKean) Wetherholt, who came to this county 1845. MITCHELL, George F. - Born July 19, 1819, Washington Co., Ohio, son of John and Anna (Plumer) Mitchell who came to this county in 1836. George married in Gallipolis July 12, 1846 to Mary Lasley born here June 4, 1824, daughter of Abraham and Nancy (Reynolds) Lasley who came here 1797. George and Mary had: Mary, Charles, Viola, George, Edward and Milo. Anna Plumber Mitchell was sister of Rev. W.S. Plumer of N.C. McCARTY, Jonas Sr. - Born October 7, 1791, early from Shenandoah, Va. to this county; married Esther S. Rife born March 3, 1791, Greenbrier Co., Va. Their son Jonas Jr. was born here February 19, 1827 and married October 1, 1846 Sophfrona Jones born August 29, 1825 in Athens Co., Ohio, daughter of Elias and Charlotte (Smith) Jones. Elias born Essex Co., N.Y., died 1838. Charlotte born in Vt. died May 4, 1838 age 44. Jonas Sr. died 1851 and his wife died past 92 years of age. Jonas Jr. and wife had: Charlotte, Alonzo, Charles, Missouri, Cecelia and Serena. MONTGOMERY, Thomas J. L. - Born here October 28, 1835, son of Thomas and Tracey (Swindler) Montgomery, early settlers here. Thomas Jr. married Lucretia Haskins born here May 23, 1834, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth (Garlick) Haskins who settled here in 1814. Thomas Jr. and wife had: Deniza, James, John, Charles, Tacy, Clara, Eliza and Wm. (twins), Eugene, Lauria and Decatur. The wife Lucretia died March 14, 1875. MAUPIN, Daniel G. - Born June 7, 1822 Albemarle Co., Va., son of Ambrose and Lucy (Telman) Maupin who died in Albermarle Co., Va., Ambrose died 1850 and Lucy died 1853. Ambrose was son of Zachrin and Elizabeth (Gorman) Maupin of French descent. Daniel married 1st Margaret C. Johnson born Trumbull Co., Ohio August 11, 1825, died September 21, 1863 and had: Sarah, Henry, Ambrose, Wesley, Josephine, Addie and Minnie. Daniel married 2nd February 7, 1865 Sarah D. Bickel born here September 24, 1841, daughter of Rev. Aaron and Savannah C. (Porter) Bickel and had: Artie, Wm., Carrie, Clinton, Lucy and Lucilla. Daniel was in legislature in Calaway Co., Mo. and Lincoln Co., W.Va., postmaster in Lawrence Co., Ohio. To this county 1869 and was druggist and physician. McDANIEL, Sylvester - Born here March 7, 1818, son of Jehu and Elizabeth (Boggs) McDaniel who settled here in 1807. Jehu in War of 1812 and his father in Rev. War. Sylvester married here March 8, 1838 Mahala Louks born in W. Va., April 2, 1821, daughter of Joshua and Mary (Row) Louks who settled here in 1822. Sylvester and wife had: William, Mary, Jehu and Melissa. Son William born March 4, 1840 married April 27, 1869 Araminta Copeland born August 12, 1841, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Keller) Copland, and had Fred, Lucy, Gertrude and Clarence. McDANIEL, Ephriam and wife Elizabeth (Shumate) McDaniel settled in this county in 1811. They had a son Marion born September 18, 1834 who married Phebe Bird born here June 15, 1843, daughter of George and Mary B. (Briggs) Bird. Marion and Phebe had: John, George, Mary, Anna, Albert, Marion, Joseph and Minnie. McDANIEL, Friend settled in this county in 1816 married Margaret Wiseman who was here in 1830. They had a son Frank who married Euphemia Stewart born here November 28, 1851, daughter of John and Sally C. (Neal) Stewart who settled here in 1839. Frank and wife had 4 children. MARTT, Joseph H. and wife Lydia (Thornton) Martt settled in this county in 1854. They had a son James L. Martt born April 8, 1849 in Lawrence Co., Ohio who married Florence Colwell, here in 1873. She was born here November 28, 1851. James and wife had 3 children. MUELLER, Rev. John P. - Born July 26, 1838 in Metternich, Germany, son of Christian and Gertrude (Hamacher) Mueller of Germany. He married November 20, 1877 Elizabeth C. Lauer in Parkersburg, W.Va. She was born in Washington Co., Ohio September 10, 1846, daughter of John and Margaret (Berg) Lauer. MYERS, John and wife Mary (Fralix) Myers settled here early. John in 1828 and Mary in 1833. They had a son John William Myers born here May 25, 1839 who married Mary Handlin, born Alleghany Co., Pa., who came here in 1849. John and wife had 11 children. Son Enoch B. born here September 3, 1851 married Maggie Stewart born August 13, 1851 in Muskingum Co., Ohio, daughter of George S. and Catherine (Wear) Stewart who settled her in 1853. John Myers was born Giles Co., Va., February 7, 1810 and his wife Mary was born Pittsylvania Co., Va., June 12, 1810, married here in Gallipolis June 24, 1833. McDANIEL, Jehu L. - Son of Sylvester and Mahala born January 18, 1844, married Martha Guthrie born here January 26, 1844, daughter of Truman and Hannah (Knowles) Guthrie and had May and Ethel. Jehu in Civil war. MILLER, James - Born March 29, 1836 in Beaver Co., Pa., son of John and Sarah (Haines) Miller. He married 1st June 14, 1840 in Meigs Co., Harriet Grapes born June 2, 1842, daughter of David and Elizabeth (Cummings) Grapes. She died November 17, 1866 leaving 3 children: Arnetta, John, David. He married 2nd Julia A. Barton born December 26, 1835, Columbiana Co., Ohio. Julia had married 1st Dennis G. Armstrong, in this county April 2, 1857. Dennis born July 5, 1832 in Washington Co., Ohio, son of Theodosia and Mary (Sprague) Armstrong. Dennis died June 21, 1864 and left children: Winafred (Coulter), Austin and Dennis. Julia's grandfather, Thomas Barton died here 1860 age 84 and grandmother age 86. James and Lydia had: James, Isaac and Cora. McLEOD, Norman - Born March 28, 1799 and his wife Irena (Gates) McLeod born March 26, 1806, settled here in 1810. They had a son Robert B. born here April 8, 1839, married December 25, 1861 Lucinda Waddell born here January 29, 1844, daughter of John and Lucinda (Armstrong) Waddell, who settled in this county in 1810. John Waddell was born October 13, 1799 and his wife born March 31, 1802. John died January 18, 1875. Robert and Lucinda had Thomas and Irena. Norman also had a son Thomas. MORGAN, David J. - Born Cardiganshire, Wales September 8, 1821, son of John and Catherine (Jones) Morgan. John born 1785 died 1858 and Catherine born 1787 and died 1871. They came to this county 1842. David J. married in this county January 9, 1853, to Mary Davis born January 29, 1834 in Cardiganshire, Wales, daughter of John K. and Mary (Frances) Davis who settled here in 1842. John K. was born February 1, 1802 and died May 1, 1879 and his wife born February 1, 1802. David and Mary had 15 children. MOSSBARGER, Jacob - Born this county July 4, 1822, son of John and Mary (Whellbarger) Mossbarger. Jacob married 1st Nancy Cherrington March 23, 1845 and she died November 14, 1849 and left 2 children: Mary and Wm. who later went to Antelope Co., Neb. Jacob married 2nd Martha McCarley born in this county December 21, 1824, daughter of Moses and Sarah (Hartsock) McCarley who settled here in 1812. Moses died 1851 and wife Sarah born 1791 and died 1880. Martha had married 1st Thomas Warner born Marietta, Ohio December 21, 1819 and died December 5, 1849 leaving 2 children: Anaximander born 1846 and Moses born January 17, 1849 who both later moved to Nebraska. Jacob and Martha had Sarah, Samuel, John and Effie. MADDY, James W. - Born here March 25, 1817, son of James and Elizabeth (Lowry) Maddy, who came with one child to this county in 1814. James Sr. was born Monroe Co., Va., September 2, 1791 and his wife Elizabeth born Stafford Co., Va. 1796, died 1875. James W. married Mary Hardy April 16, 1846, born June 8, 1823 in Ohio Co., W.Va., daughter of William and Clarissa (Cole) Hardy who settled here in 1840. Wm Hardy was born in N.J. in 1799 and died here 1880. His wife Clarissa born N.Y. State in 1799 and died here 1879. James W. and Mary had: Wm., Lewis, Sarah, James, Edwin and John. MINK, Jacob - Born January 26, 1812 in this county, son of Abraham and Barbara (Lawrence) Mink, who settled here in 1811. Abraham born 1790 in Pa and Barbara born 1792 in Pa. Jacob married here Mahalea Jonson March 15, 1840, who was born in Mason Co., W.Va. February 14, 1818. Jacob and Mahalea had: Annias, Enas, Margaret (Mackall), Barbara (Kinkaid), Rachel, Jacob, Amos, John, Thomas, August and Edmond. MARTIN, James - Born in this county July 13, 1827, son of George and Helen (Johnston) Martin, both natives of Scotland. John born 1799, died 1880; Helen born 1798, died 1828. James married Isabella Askin February 20, 1854 in Meigs Co., Ohio in 1835. Richard born in Ireland in 1780, died 1850 and Agnes born May 16, 1805 in Belfast, Ireland. James and Isabella had 4 children. NIDAY (or NIDA), Franklin D. - Born here December 19, 1840, son of Lewis and Jane (Blankinship) Niday, married June 8, 1865 Martha C. McCall born December 7, 1845, daughter of James and Martha (Phelps) McCall and had 6 children. OILER, James - Born here December 13, 1828, son of Samuel and Polly (Caldwell) Oiler, who came to this county from Va. in 1811. James married September 18, 1853 to Eva Shiveley, daughter of John and Hannah (Woollem) Shiveley. Eva had married 1st Jacob Bard and had Debora born 1838, (lived Iowa), Hannah born 1840, Henry born 1843 (lived Perry Co., Ohio), Jeremiah born 1845 (lived Kansas), and Eliza born 1848. Eva born Columbiana Co., Ohio September 3, 1814. James was wounded in Civil war. OLIVER, John - Born March 1, 1838, in Jackson Co., Ohio son of Charles and Huldah (McIntyre) Oliver. Charles Oliver born in Va., died Oct. 1863 and Huldah died December 1844. John married Sarah Ann Crump, May 22, 1874. Sarah born here March 1, 1838, daughter of Joseph and Minerva (McLaughlin) Crump, who settled here in 1818. Joseph Crump born 1803 and died 1881 and his wife was born June 8, 1818. John Oliver came here in 1847. OLMSTEAD, Jesse D. - Born April 9, 1833 in Trumbull Co., Ohio, son of George and Chloe (Doud) Olmstead. Jesse married April 12, 1857 in Allen Co., Ohio Leanna Bemiss born September 29, 1839, in Allen Co., Ohio, daughter of Horatio and Louisa (Thayer) Bemiss. Jesse and Leanna had 5 children. Jess and brother James M. in Civil war. PEDEN, Thomas E. - Born here September 13, 1832, son of John and Elizabeth (Ewing) Peden. Elizabeth was born here and John came to this county in 1811. Thomas married February 27, 1858 in Albany, Athens Co., Ohio to Loueasy Martin born in Monroe Co., Ohio February 28, 1837, daughter of James H. and Tacy (Triplit) Martin. Thomas and his brothers Henry and Jordan served in Civil war. PORTER, Rufus P. - Born March 22, 1821 in Athens Co., Ohio, son of Solomon C. and Phebe K. (Burnham) Porter. Solomon was born 1798 and to this county in 1836 and his wife Phebe born 1801. Rufus married 1st Elizabeth Heaton who died December 10, 1863. He married 2nd Mary Butler July 28, 1864. Mary was born here June 13, 1840, daughter of Fleming and Elizabeth (Eagle) Butler, who settled here in 1816. Fleming was a soldier of War of 1812. PORTER, Daniel - Born 1824 in Cabell, Co., W.Va., son of Thomas and Ann (Topas) Porter, who came here in 1837. Daniel married in 1853 to Nancy Wilson born 1833 in McMinn Co., Tenn., daughter of Elijah and Elizabeth (Van Zhandt) Wilson, who came to this county in 1836. Daniel and Nancy had 11 children. PARMLEY, William G. - Born in 1838 in Lycoming Co., Pa., son of George and Ann (Watson) Parmley who came here in 1833, where George died 1856 and Anna died 1840. William married October 3, 1864 to Margaret J. Small born 1838 in Pittsburgh, Pa., daughter of Richard and Mary (Edwards) Small, who came here in 1847. POLLOCK, Thomas A. - Born June 30, 1815, in Fayette Co., Pa., son of Stephen and Ann (Dunham) Pollock who came to this county in 1843. Stephen was born February 26, 1790 and died July 28, 1863 and wife Ann born December 28, 1793 and died December 5, 1875. Thomas married February 16, 1847 to Elizabeth Kennedy born here August 14, 1828, daughter of Cornelius and Jane (Waugh) Kennedy who came here in 1800. Cornelius died 1833 and Jane died 1860. Thomas and Elizabeth had: Mary born 1847, Hortence born 1849, Thomas born 1851, Edgar born 1853 (lived Ill.), Norman born 1855, Emma born 1858, John born 1860, Elizabeth born 1864, Charles born 1867, Salemma born 1870, and Ernest born 1872. Thomas A. Pollock had a brother Stephen born February 11, 1822 in Ohio Co., W.Va., who married May 25, 1847 Barbary Hay born here April 4, 1828, daughter of Reubin and Margaret (Aleshire) Hay who came here in 1817. Reuben was born June 22, 1793 and Barbary born 1790 and died May 12, 1861. Reuben died April 16, 1875. Stephen and Barbary had 7 children. PARK, John - Born September 14, 1830 in Brooke Co., W.Va., son of Wm. and Jane (Adams) Park. Wm. was born August 16, 1808 died September 19, 1864 and Jane born February 14, 1811, died July 24, 1882. Wm. and Jane were married in Brooke Co., W.Va. November 8, 1829 and had: John (above) born 1830, Robert born 1832, Nancy born 1835 (lived Meigs Co., Ohio), Wm. born 1838 (lived Marshall Co., W.Va.), A.J. born 1840, Martin V.B. born 1842, T.B. born 1845, Jane born 1848 (married Dr. J.G. Hamilton and lived Duvall Co.. Fla.), Wm. Park was son of Robert Park born in Ireland and wife Margaret (Erwin) Park. Margaret moved with 4 children from Va. to Ky. in 1873 and then to this county. Jane Adams Parks was the daughter of Wm and Nancy (Cox) Adams and Wm. was born in England and Nancy in Va. PAULIN, Thomas W. - Born June 20, 1856 in Meigs Co., Ohio, son of Solomon and Julietta (Hamilton) Paulin. The father of Solomon was War of 1812 soldier. Thomas W. married Emma Reed born March 14, 1863 in Meigs Co., Ohio, daughter of Reuben and Elizabeth (Mauck) Reed, formerly of Meigs Co., Ohio. PAKE, Dr. James H. - Born April 1-0, 1857 in Zanesville, Ohio, son of Philip L. and Melissa (Hopkins) Pake. Philip died when James was age 6, leaving 3 sons. The father of Melissa Hopkins Pake was James H. Hopkins born 1790 in Pa., married in 1818 to Jane Alderman and came to Meigs Co., Ohio in 1839 and raised 16 children. James H. Pake married 1879 at Pagetown, Ohio Mary E. Armstrong born Meigs Co., Ohio November 20, 1859, daughter of Wm. and Jane (Bowers) Armstrong. James H. Hopkins, father of Melissa was a War of 1812 soldier. PATTON, Dr. William K. - Born 1816 in Canada, son of John H. and Elizabeth (Willson) Patton. John H. born 1789 died 1834, Elizabeth born 1797, died 1849. Both died in Pittsburgh, Pa. Dr. Wm. K. Patton married Barbara A. Bostch August 9, 1840 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Barbara was born October 2, 1823 in Sunfish, Ohio and died 1878. Wm and Barbara came here 1853. Barbara was daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Risher) Boston. Jacob born 1788 and died 1857 and Catherine born March 12, 1786 and died 1869. Dr. Wm. and Barbara had: Catherine born 1841, Mary born 1844 died young, and Elizabeth born 1846 died young. PATTERSON, Dr. Daniel - Born May 27, 1823 in Canada East (Stanstead Plain), son of Daniel and Jane (Fox) Patterson. Daniel settled in this county in 1850. He married October 10, 1856 to Mary S.K. McDaniel born here May 29, 1830, daughter of Jehu and Elizabeth (Boggs) McDaniel, who settled here in 1807. Dr. Daniel's ancestors were from Mass. and Conn. His grandfather Silas Fox, a Rev. war soldier died in Vt. PIERCE, Archelaus - Born September 4, 1817 in Tompkins Co., N.Y. son of Horace and Anna (Robbins) Pierce. He married here Mary C. Cribbage, May 22, 1850. She was born here April 1, 1830, daughter of Philip and Catherine (Jeffers) Cribbage. They had Edward born 1851, William born 1859, and Albert born 1862. Archelaus came to this county in 1840. PARRY, Lewis - Born May 26, 1844 in Cardiganshire, Wales, son of David and Mary (Davies) Parry. Lewis settled here in 1852. He had a brother Evan Parry in Civil War. Lewis married Annie Davies in 1872 in Jackson Co., Ohio. She was born in that county September 16, 1847, daughter of Jenkin J. and Mary (Morgan) Davies, both natives of Wales. Lewis and Annie had 5 children.
