ATTENTION NETWORKS

Nearly a century ago, William James wrote about selective attention:

"Everyone knows what attention is. It is the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seems several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought. "

The last years have seen a tremendous increase in our understanding of networks, for maintaining the alert state. We believe that with a better understanding of how these networks function there will come an understanding of the brain systems that support conscious awareness.
