McCartney stops concert for proposal
Category: News Update

Ben and Melissa. Remember those names. They might become as familiar as Tom and Katie ... Rob and Amber ... even Sonny and Cher.

Ben Okuly and Melissa Steele are two crazy kids from Findlay, Ohio, who became engaged -- very publicly, with Paul McCartney as their enabler -- at the Paul McCartney concert last Friday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Ben, 26, is employed at the Findlay library, and Melissa, 25, works in a local hospital's emergency room.

Ben was thinking of asking Melissa to marry him when they drove up to Detroit for the McCartney concert. "We haven't had the best time for the last 18 months," he says. "I lost two grandparents in three months, and in July, Melissa lost her sister. I was trying to think of a way to do this and make it a memorable occasion, really special."

Little did he know.

During the show, McCartney spotted a sign Ben was holding up from his fourth row seat: "'CAN BEN ASK MELISSA TO MARRY HIM?'" McCartney read out loud.

"Well, go on, get down on your knees and ask her, Ben!" the former Beatle ordered. Ben did, and Melissa said yes.

"Well, that's a first for me," McCartney quipped of the in-concert engagement. "And I hope it's a last for you, Ben."

Later on, McCartney had different sides of the arena sing the "Na ... na na na na na na" chorus to "Hey Jude." First one side of the arena sang, then the other side, then the men, then just the women. "And now just Ben and Melissa," McCartney suddenly yelled, pointing to the fourth row

Ben and Melissa screamed the chorus at the top of their lungs, but no one could hear a word.

"To have Paul McCartney be there and start the proposal, I really don't have words to describe what that was like," says Melissa.

At the end of the show, when McCartney and the band bent over in deep bows to the audience, they pointed at Ben and Melissa and bowed one more time.

"That just blew me out of the water," says Ben. "We came to see them, and here they are giving us a special bow."

The couple returned to the Palace on Saturday to see the show again, and although McCartney mentioned their engagement, they were too far back for him to see them waving and screaming.

But this Saturday, they'll be at his concert in Columbus, Ohio. Maybe they'll make another sign. Maybe McCartney will once again mention "Ben and Melissa."

Maybe the firstborn Okuly heir will be named "Paul"?

Kimberly Stewart makes joke in bad taste.
Category: News update.

Kimberly Stewart has made a sick joke about Sir Paul McCartney's amputee victim wife, Heather Mills.

The blonde beauty, whose father is rocker Rod Stewart, disgustingly pokes fun at the former model, who lost her leg in a tragic motorbike accident in 1993, in a new interview.

She tells America's Stuff magazine: "What has three legs and lives on a farm? Paul McCartney and his wife."

The tasteless joke is set to anger Sir Paul and Heather, who devotes much of her time to charity work for other amputees.

This is not the first time Kimberly has upset a fellow celebrity with her candid comments.

Jennifer Aniston was left devastated when Kimberly branded her "homely" and unattractive in an interview with America's Blender magazine.

She said: "I like her because she's homely. She obviously has to have something else - it's not like she's gorgeous or anything."

Jennifer, who recently split from husband Brad Pitt, later admitted the quote "ruined my night" and her hurt feelings, forcing Kimberly to publicly apologize.

Kimberly said at the time: "It was one of those things you say and then you bite your tongue and think, 'What did I just do?' It made me feel awful, so I sent flowers and an apology."

Sir Paul falls down onstage hole
Sir Paul McCartney fell through an open trapdoor while performing onstage in Tampa, Florida.
The 63-year-old fell onto a grand piano being raised into position behind him.

But although he banged his elbow he was able to complete the concert - part of a 37-city US tour to promote new album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.

"There's a big hole in the stage and I just fell into it," he said, joking the 18,000 members of the audience had got "extra value" for their money.

'Big fence'

"We were expecting this to happen and it happened," he added after the incident on Saturday. "I want a big fence 'round here tomorrow."

McCartney performs his next concert in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.

"He wasn't seriously hurt and was able to continue," his spokeswoman told the BBC News website.

The tour - which will includes concerts in New York, Chicago and a first time visit to Nebraska - ends in Los Angeles on 29 November.

Heather rocks out in New York!

Sir Paul McCartney's wife Heather has visited the New York office of Jennifer Lopez's fashion company Sweetface to protest against its use of fur.
"I just want to raise awareness about the skinning alive of all the animals in China," she told reporters.

"The next stage is I'll find out where she lives and show up there."

Earlier this week Mills McCartney was asked to leave a J Crew clothes store after walking in wearing a flat-screen TV showing images of animal cruelty.

Wednesday's protest, timed to coincide with New York Fashion Week, saw the 37-year-old campaigner deliver a DVD to the Sweetface offices and hold an impromptu press conference.

Altercation

According to photographers at the scene, it was followed by an altercation with security staff.

"I try and do everything gently and diplomatically, and then what do you do?" she said.

"Let millions of animals continue to be skinned alive?"

Mills McCartney is a United Nations Association Goodwill Ambassador and a patron of the Adopt-A-Minefield campaign.

Earlier this year she made an appearance on US daytime TV soap Days of our Lives to promote the anti-landmine charity.

She and her husband have a daughter, Beatrice, who was born in October 2003.
