USS Cerberus - Alien Database
Cardassians
Race Name: Cardassian (plural: Cardassians)
Homeworld: Cardassia Prime
Notable Locations:
Affiliation: Cardassian Union
HISTORY & CULTURE:
The history of Cardassia is a struggle of two extremes. On the one hand, the
Cardassians are a spiritual people, with accomplished artists, musicians and
philosophers. On the other hand, because Cardassia Prime is a resource-poor
world, the society began to fall apart, and it was only saved when the military
took over the planet, then staged several wars to gain the resources that their
homeworld needed.
Cardassian relations with neighbors are generally colored by a healthy distrust
on the part of the Cardassians. In 2347, the Cardassians invaded Setlik III,
believing that the planet was being used by the Federation to spy on Cardassian
territory. Tensions flared again when the USS Phoenix attacked several Cardassian
ships, but uncovered a Cardassian plot in the process.
The Cardassians withdrew from Bajor in 2369, and maintained generally cold
relations with its neighbors. The government of Cardassia was overthrown in 2372,
and the Klingons invaded soon after. This thawed relations between Cardassia and
the Federation as the Federation sent massive support to the civilian government
of Cardassia.
However, the next year saw the takeover of Cardassia by the Dominion, and
Cardassia fought alongside the Dominion forces in the Dominion War. Since the war,
Cardassia Prime has been devastated by the occupation by the Jem'Hadar and the
Founders. Elim Garak has taken over the government and now has the task of
rebuilding the planet and restoring his people.
BIOLOGY:
Easily recognizable by their pale grey skin and heavily ridged neck, the Cardassians are evolved from reptilian ancestors. They prefer a darker more humid environment than Human beings, although they can tolerate Human living standards if necessary. Their skeletal structure and the environment that they have evolved through make the average Cardassian slighty stronger and durable than the average human.

GM NOTES:
Cardassians tend to be very secretive. Perhaps this is because of the
fact that the Obsidian Order was one of the most feared intelligence
agencies until its demise at the hands of the Founders. Cardassians
also tend to be quite arrogant.
As of yet, there have been no Cardassians aboard the USS Cerberus in
a major role.
