Harry Sayell
Sonic
Getting old!  (48 this year)
King's Lynn, Norfolk
HGV Motor Mechanic

1 (GP Midget), 100 (Spedeworth Superstox), 10 (Alwalton Supastox)
1971 - 1977 on and off Grass Track Mini
1979 - 1999 GP Midgets
2000 Spedeworth Superstox
2002 Alwalton Raceway Supastox/Rolling Thunder UK Modified
As above, GP Midgets 1971 Swaffham (I think),
Superstox Boxing Day 1999
Alwalton 24th March 2002
Friends were grass-tracking so I joined St.Neot's Grass Track Car Club - later saw Midgets when helping John Lowe, wanted my own Midget so built BMC which was cheaper route than John Lowe's Ford Fireball.  Went from there and changed to Superstox when I wanted a new challenge having won too many Midget races (and boy have I found a challenge!)

Garry Sparkes - he's a clever driver
Ringwood for the atmosphere, a Saturday night is electric, and Alwalton for the results I have had there (4 Worlds and 4 of the 5 Europeans)
Watching - contact Superstox
Taking Part - had to be GP Midgets (before the rot set in for me personally) at moment not sure where my future lies, I'd love to be a red top Spedeworth driver but don't know if that could ever happen

I wouldn't name and shame anyone but two types of driver really annoy me.
Anyone who weaves about in a non-contact formula to hold position because it spoils the racing by holding up quicker drivers and just is not sportsmanship!
And anyone in a formula who continues to race whilst dumping oil.
Angmering - only raced it once and would not go there again unless was tarmac and smooth - ironically if it was then it would probably be one of my favourites!  Didn't like Tilburg when that was on the go.
Bangers - for the mess they leave behind; this comes from racing a Midget with nearly 500 tyres on it and often we got to follow Bangers

Probably my first World Final at Alwalton in 1990 - it was a wet race, I went from flag to flag having never driven the car in the wet before that.
One at Yarmouth in a Midget - really excited to race there for the first time - put some second hand tyres on back that I had bought from another driver - they were so hard a screwdriver wouldn't have tested the compound and spent most of the evening facing the wrong way
Following Neil Clarke's Midget at Angmering with his side pods flapping up and down like wings.  It started off an annual mickey taking trophy presentation tradition!
John Lowe's encouragement into Midgets and a lot of help and advice with first car has to have the greatest impact in my racing.  Basil Clarke's encouragement to change to VW and the subsequent politics which lead to my decision to quit Midgets
Right now to finish the transporter I started building 10months ago, and to be as comfortable driving a Superstox as I was in my Midget (if that's possible)

HDC/Racer's Hardware; HRG Paints and Panels; Lyndale Race Engines (who incidentally help a lot of drivers and probably make it possible for a lot of people to race); Rob and of course the rest of the family; and brother-in-law Doug.  Also would like to thank Alwalton and Spedeworth drivers for making this aging has-been so welcome!
Harry Sayell ready for the off in his Supastox - pic courtesey of Sayell Racing.
Harry Sayell is probably one of the most well-known oval racers of the 90's having taken 4 World Titles in the Grand Prix Midget class and 9 consecutive National Points titles.  A new challenge was required as the year 2000 approached, and leaving behind the success he had in Midgets, Harry went on to Superstox with Spedeworth.  Now overseeing his son Rob's exploits in GP Midgets, Harry has decided to race in the Supastox class at Alwalton.  Please take the time out to visit www.sayellracing.co.uk to find all you need to know about the Sayell's - many thanks to Anne Sayell for the info and profiles.
